How Electrolysis Changed My Life

I have some before and after pictures I wanted to show everyone to let you know how much that electrolysis has changed my life. If anyone is considering electrolysis but is not sure if it works, I want to urge to to try it. I thought my case was hopeless…

2 weeks before I took the before pictures, I plucked out every hair. 4 days before I took it, I shaved. So in reality, the hair was much worse than these pictures show.

The after pictures? I had my last treatment two weeks ago and I’ve done nothing since.

I’ve been going for a year now. I started going once a week for 1 hour. Now I go once every other week for 1/2 hour. My wonderful electrolysis told me that I really should only be going once every 3 weeks now, so after tomorrow’s appointment I’ll probably start to do that.

So far I have spent in the neighborhood of $2400, and I estimate only abour $400 - $500 more before I’m considered “done”. (I would consider “done” for me would be going for 15 minutes once every 2-3 months.)

The initial investment is a lot. For the first 6 months, I was paying $280 a month for electrolysis. However, now the cost is negligible. I would consider the near-$3,000 I will spend on electrolysis to be THE BEST MONEY I HAVE EVER SPENT.

Electrolysis has given me self-esteem I never knew I had. I no longer am self-conscious. I no longer obsess about people staring at my hair. I can wear my hair in a pony tail whenever I want to. I wear makeup now to even my skin tone, not hide my stubble.

This has been the best decision I have ever made. If you are struggling with it and thinking about it, GO FOR IT!!! It is worth the money, the discomfort, EVERYTHING.

If anyone has any questions or would like a recommendation for a WONDERFUL ELECTROLOGIST in Rockland County, NY please feel free to contact me!!!

Here are my pictures (I sized them to 600 pixels wide and kept them under 35k!):

thanks so much for posting pictures. we rarely see people come back and do this, so it’s very helpful. you did have quite a bit of hair. did you ever get tested for any hormonal disorders? have you seen an endocrinologist? btw, very brave of you to take pictures before you started. I wish I did that for many of the areas I’ve had both laser and electrolysis done.

also, these results are great. but just a note to anyone else reading this that for this type situation with very coarse on very light skin, some money can be possibly saved by going for effective laser treatments first to clear up the bulk of the hair and then finishing up with electrolysis. just something to consider.

$3000 seems like a lot for such small areas. I think it is great you were able to take care of your problem, but wow…pretty disheartening for a guy that might want full clearance of their beard or larger portions of their body.

I have never seen an endocrinologst but two separate doctors have tested me for hormonal disorders and found nothing but slightly elevated testosterone. My mother had the same problems in the same areas, as did her mother, so I’m positive it was hereditary.

I was wary of the horror stories about laser and wanted to avoid burns, scarring, and the possibility of more hair growth, so I chose to go with the proven method. I just didn’t trust laser with my face .

When I started, I estimated the cost at $2,000 - $3,000 and I was right on target. Remember, this will be over the course of about 1 1/2 - two years.

I don’t know where you’re from, maybe it’s more expensive in the NYC suburb area. Everything else seems to be more expensive here than the rest of the country.

Wow! What a change! Congrats  I have some “before” pictures in my thread, and I’m in a somewhat similar situation as you were. Seeing your progress is really helpful to me.

What modality did your electrologist use? It seems to have worked remarkable well!

Congratulations and thanks for the pics. Very few people do this!

Keep in mind that what you pay, and how fast or slow you progress has a lot to do with who is working on you, and how the work is being done.

Hi tembo and thanks for always including the darkskinlaser site after your posts.

I really think consumers here, that are not aware of this forum should really take a look and hopefully, add some information to build upon this important site. There are a couple video’s from ‘youtube’ about laser that may be of some interest to some here, so please take a look.

hormonal disorders can be hereditary too. i would still see an endocrinologist in particular just to rule everything out. someone else just posted that they always got normal tests but then went to an endo and did an ultrasound to find out that they have ovarian cysts. it’s not just for the hair issues, but i think it’s good to make sure there is nothing wrong that can get worse later in life and cause other issues etc. also, there are some good birth control pills that can regulate inbalances.

Thank you for posting your progress photos. The results of your treatment area truly fantastic. Congratulations.

Yeah 2000 for just that scares the crap out of me. I’ve almost spent 2K and I’m not to one clearance yet on my shoulders, upper arms, and back of neck. How many clearances did it take to remove most of it? If it cost you 2000, it’ll cost me 100K.

Thermolysis.

Thank you for the advice, but I am comfortable with the tests I have had thus far, results of those tests, and the birth control I am currently on. I have no plans to see an endocrinologist and that is not going to change. I didn’t come and post these pictures to solicit advice on my overall health, I just wanted to share the pictures to people who may be considering electrolysis to show them that it really does work.

Except for the first two or three appointments, I have gotten full clearance at every appointment. (I think?) So maybe 30 clearances? My hair could possibly be more dense than yours, though.

Just to add a little information: if you think you had about 30 clearances, that does not mean that each hair has been treated 30 times. Some people may jump to that conclusion and it would be dreadfully wrong and unfair to think that.

Your hair is very coarse and I’m assuming that this type of hair needs to be broken down, meaning some hairs may need to be treated twice, maybe even three times, over a period of 9-12 months before it is eliminated. Whatever is happening, however it is happening,it is happening well for you, skr2srs. And Chuck, 100k? No, no, no… not even close if you are with a proficient, focused electrologist with a good strategy.

Dee

just wanted to say congrats!!! if only more people knew how great it is to overcome excess hair problems

(by more people I mean those who don’t understand our problem!!)

I would like to say that her hair may not have even needed “breaking down”, she could have just had a lot of hair and it took that long to get to each one as it came up above the skin’s surface. She admits to being a plucker and you know those pluckers have way more hair than they ever expect, because their plucking changes the number of hairs that are visible on the skin’s surface, while not changing how many active follicles there actually are in the treatment area. Then there are the plucker’s whose skin reacts to the plucking by recruiting more hairs to grow, and thinner hairs to get thicker.

When ever I have a plucker, I always have to tell them, "I will be able to get you to First Clearance in no time, but it will look like everything I did grew back in a week or 2 as the plucked hairs start to come out.

I have a client now who is finishing up who was a daily plucker when we started, and it took me a long time to convince her that continuing to pluck would only extend out treatment time, and cost her MORE MONEY! Although her actual hours of treatment are low, we have had to have 40 sessions of ever decreasing duration over the course of a year, as she has chosen to have me remove hairs as they come in, so that she won’t be tempted to pluck.

Needless to say, when ever she leaves my office, she has no noticeable hairs in the treatment areas.

James,

I have a question for you then. I haven’t gone to get an electrolysis consult yet, but but the plucker thing concerns me. I get my brows, upper lip and chin waxed about every 3-4 weks. Inbetween if I feel a chin hair, I will pluck it. NOt on a daily basis though. Are you saying it would be best to not do this? I don’t want to cause any further time or cost for when I actually go to get electrolysis. My upper lip isn’t too bad. I only pluck once in a while a hair or 2 but since they aren’t too coarse, I can wait until waxing time. But it’s the chin! It seems right after I get it waxed, I feel the next day and there’s 10 more that have grown (I know they grow at diff times and intervals and all that). So I have been getting the chin done more frequently (maybe every 2 wks) instead of plucking. Is that the best thing to do-- just not pluck at all and go get waxed more frequently prior to getting electrolysis? Thanks in advance!
