How do i hit the bulge????

Hi,
This is my first ever forum post so apologies for awful writing and waffling before i start.
My name is Huma and i’m an electrologist working in London.
The UK is miles behind in electrolysis and when i read posts and advice from the masters on this forum, (including my personal guru James who has been kind enough to be a great mentor in my early days), I feel like i know nothing at all.

I have learnt so much from reading the posts on this forum, that i feel i work on a different level than most of the electrologists in this country. But this does not make me popular as most clients complain that my treatment is too painful, slow and that there is too much scabbing. Of course my success rate is really high too but most clients would prefer someone that gives them less pain, is ridiculously fast and leaves no marks at all. To that i say their loss! My loyal clients have been around the block and as a very nice lady said to my yesterday, i was worth more then a hundred camels…( Not to blow my own trumpet or anything!!!)

One thing that does really confuses me is the killing of hair through the bulge in the hair follicle.

I was taught the usual shpeel about getting the hair in anagen to kill it and it was only during my Apilus training that there was a slight discussion about how there was a theory that you could kill the hair at any stage if the bulge was damaged. The teacher could not answer my question on how to do this and to this day i’m still clueless on how to make an insertion to damage the bulge. I have read Josefa and Micheal mention this but I really don’t know how to do it.
Any help in this area would be very much appreciated.

Hmama James doesnt post here anymore but you and I share a mentor. I happen to chat with James almost daily, would you like me to put your questions to him directly?

I myself wont answer here because I dont feel comfortable, but would be happy to in private. Shoot me a message if you want to get a discussion going.

If you get a smooth, easy “release,” you have undoubtedly dispatched the “bulge area” (where the primary stem cells are found). All of the essential target elements lie below the “anchor” and can be taken out with all modalities of electrolysis. It’s all in “the feel” of it.

Hi Hmama and iluv2zap.

Hmama, stem cells are produced in the bulge region and that is a critical area to disable. Since, at this time, as we administer electrolysis, we can’t see through the skin, we use some clues to help us determine if we are doing a good job.

INSERTION
TREATMENT ENERGY

You already know that you are doing a good job because your clients are hair free. Because of this, you are destroying the bulge. Some insertions might be too shallow to miss the dermal papilla but missing the bulge is probably less likely because it is only about half way down. So, the depth and angle of your insertions are good since your clients are hair free.

Also, we want the area surrounding the follicle to get sufficient treatment and you are using adequate energy to get this area, again, because your clients see results.

It looks like you are, “doing it”!

Now, after reading your post, would you like to discuss your other concern regarding increasing the comfort level for clients?

Arlene, thank you so much for replying to my post.
I really hope i am hitting the bulge as i really don’t want to work on the same hair multiple times as i had always believed i had to before i read some posts on this forum.
If i am doing it correctly and scabbing my clients and causing a lot of pain in the process, what do you think i should do? I always say to clients i know its going to hurt more it does with other clients but you will get rid of the hair.

The IBP can help you and I’d be glad to provide samples Hmama.

Hmama,

Are you a member of Electrology International and HairShoot? These are closed facebook discussion sites for electrologists only and there are many there that will help you with any questions you may have. You will have to offer proof that you are indeed an electrologist before we will add you as a member. I can facilitate this on E-International and June Adams can get you going on Hairshoot, our British sister site for electrologists.

Please consider joining E-international and HairShoot, as Hairtell is more for consumer help, rather than practitioner help.

Hi Huma. If you are a professional electrologist, yep, as Dee suggested, those facebook memberships would most likely be helpful.

If you are not a member of facebook or for some reason want to stay here, that is fine. You will get some action here too albeit much less.

Tell us about your work approach - probe choices - modality choices etc. Then we can ask more questions and make suggestions.

All the best,

Hi Dee,
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post.
I’m not a member of any electrolysis group yet but i will definitely look into joining one. James has helped me a lot in the past and I am indebted to him for all the advice he give me when i started my career.

It is when i read posts by amazing electrologists like you, Josefa and of course Micheal Bono (who’s name i can’t even say without swooning, only joking Micheal), that i realise that i still have a lot to learn even though i have work professionally for over 4 years.

It’s just a real honor for me to learn from the best. It takes special people to offer help and time and people like myself appreciate how much this information help you guys give us.
Kind regards,
Huma
