Higher time or higher power

Hello.
I’ve started a home electrolysis hair removal project at home.
I do this for my wife because she hates going every month to get rid of her hair.
(I’m from a small town from Romania, impossible to find a trained electrologist here).

I’ve made her a surprise for Christmas and bought and old Apilus Junior and started our electrolysis sessions.

I have no training in electrolysis field so after reading some information (Bono’s free book and some pages of Sheila Godfrey) and also many topics on this forums I’ve done some testings.

I’m a dentist and I’m using a 4X loupe with high led illumination which I use currently in practice.

At first it was really difficult to see where I’m entering and it was discouraging because I thought that it would be much simpler.

With practice and time, my insertions got better and now I feel when entering the pore, short fall sensation or easy entering like a path.

We did a tolerance tester and the ok for galvanic was 0.20mA

Unfortunately the pain was a little higher and we used some anesthetic.

We used after some galvanic tries, Omniblend. The values for OMNI BLEND after some testings where the hair release easily without force it to come out are 18 seconds and 0.25mA

We tried some settings and between them we found 12 seconds and 0.25mA hair didn’t release, 24 sec and 0.25mA working but probably too long, and we found 18sec and 0.25mA the working value.

We tried for now only on a limited area to see the effects (on 2 toes) and the area looks ok after 1-2 days. We plan to go to larger areas but I want some clarifications.

Sorry for bothering you with much reading but here are the questions:

  1. It would be significantly better to increase magnification ? What electrologists use regularly ?

  2. On Apilus Junior I have two options for blend: (Pulsing blend and Omni blend). Which of these two are recommended to use ?

  3. About Omni blend 18sec 0.25mA would be better to increase time and lower current or lower time and increase current ?
Lower time would be faster for clearing but don’t know if it would be ok.

Thank you very much for helping me

I would not have answered if i did not have had the feeling that You are approaching electrolysis carefully and systematically.

Which is really low - but anyway, You must live with that low tolerance. Which means use of anesthetic.

  1. It would be significantly better to increase magnification ? What electrologists use regularly ?

With 4X You are already on the larger magnification side. I am using 6X.

  1. On Apilus Junior I have two options for blend: (Pulsing blend and Omni blend). Which of these two are recommended to use ?

Pulsing blend is a lot less restricted on that machine. You can go to larger settings especially in the thermolysis component.
With appropriate anestetic measures and after a lot of training (!) You can gradually (!!) and carefully (!!!) move toward the body technique Michael Bono describes. But be aware that this is an advanced technique.

  1. About Omni blend 18sec 0.25mA would be better to increase time and lower current or lower time and increase current ?
Lower time would be faster for clearing but don’t know if it would be ok.

In traditional blend the galvanic current is chosen to appropriate to the thickness of the hair. The free parameters are time and RF intensity. And this is where the limitations of the Omniblend implementation arise very soon. I would go for shorter timing because it gets increasingly difficult to keep the position of the probe fixed with time - especially if You work on Yourself - what You should do to practice, e.g. on the easier reachable reagions of Your legs.

Thank you very much for answers.

For the next session I’ll take some photos to keep track of before and after.

[color:#CC0000]Two things,

First, I want to get above 700 posts before 2013 and I have 10 hours to get this done.

And second, I think what you’re doing is really really great. How lucky for your wife! This is great! I too have done electrolysis for a female friend of mine. It’s really the optimum experience because they can just watch a movie or you can talk about stuff and clear hair at the same time.[/color]

[color:#CC0000]And yes, always write down your powers, times and history. It helps months down the road.

…You know, to be kind of honest? When you said “Higher Power” I thought maybe you were talking about God. But this wasn’t the case.

Yes Mantary, she enjoys watching movies while I struggle to remove her hair

For our next session we moved to underarms (armpits).
I took some photos to see if the skin looks ok or not.
I told her not to use deodorant/antiperspirant for 2 days.

I’ve started with Omni Blend (I can setup only galvanic and time, and computer will set the thermolysis time) 18 sec 0.25mA but the hairs didn’t release so gradually, little by little I arrived at 15 sec and 0.50mA where I could get decent results.

Due to direction of insertion it took a lot of time just to remove a couple of hairs so I couldn’t clear too much.

I guess that for insertions would be better to shave her underarms 2 weeks before electrolysis and I could get a better direction of insertion.

I’m curious how high can I go with galvanic but to be also in safe range ? I know it dependes on many factors like skin type and so on, but can I increase more than 0.50mA or it’s high enough ? (Apilus Junior machine)

Mada, completely off topic, but your gift to your wife is lovely! How I wish my other half did the same for me.

Jossie sent me this link and said you are using local. If you are, that’s great. (I actually couldn’t find it, but that doesn’t matter.)

Tip: Start at the lower underarm. The local “drifts” upward and therefore you will get a much better area of coverage. (The local follows the direction of capillary flow and that is out into the extremities.)

@anamika I can’t lie and say that I’m 100% happy because my free time is going on reading about electrolysis and doing electrolysis.

@Michael Bono

Thank you very much for answer and tip.
Being a dentist makes it easier for me to do local anesthesia. Tried without at the start but because my wife seems to be very sensitive didn’t have other choice.
