Hi.. My experience.. !

Hi Dee,

Thanks for your response. I go to Mary Lou in San Jose, CA. I think she is really good. She uses light & I belive atleast a 5x magnification.

Yes, I still do maintain a schedule in an excel spread-sheet which has really helped me monitor my progress… I’d be happy to send it to you over email

To give you an example, these are the columns in my excel

Date :
Time : Time worked on in the session
Cost :
Main : Main area worked on
Secondary : Secondary area worked on
Notes :
Hair Growth: General notes about how the hair growth is between 2 treatments
Time Gap : between 2 treatments in terms of # of days
Schedule :

For the last few months, I have started giving her a schedule . I let her know say 10 mins Blend + 15 mins Thermolysis on the chin etc

This has helped me cut down my cost I guess coz we are only getting the hair that bother me (which includes the dark ones & the thin long ones)

Currently we do a combination of blend & thermolysis… but in another 3 months I guess I will do straight thermolysis because I guess the hair might have thinned down substantially by then

Thanks a lot to everyone on this forum for the great help!! I might not be that regular but promise to keeep you updated…

Thanks,
June

Regular would be nice, but we can live with (and certainly appreciate) knowing how it all goes, and most importantly, how it ends, and your review, including what you might have done differently now that you know what you know, when you finish.

People who come here always have the question, “Does this work?” and they have so few post strings to go to that show start, middle and end.

I hope you will give us that one more post string to show the way.

Hi All,

I just completed my one year anniversary this Sept … yay!!

The progress so far has been great! & am really happy I decided to get electrolysis. I am not done as yet as I was hoping to. But I see a major reduction in the hair growth. In addition to the reduction I notice that the hair have become very thin as well…

So far we were doing a combination of Blend & Thermolysis. Now I am planning to ask my electrolygist to do only Thermolysis

To give you an idea on the progress…

When I started a year back, it used to take around 1 hour 45 mins to clear all my areas i.e. Chin, Upperlip, neck & both side burns using Thermolysis

Now, it takes me less than 1 hr to clear all these areas using a combination of Blend & Thermolysis

A year back after 10 days of electrolysis, I would start avoiding meetings at work coz somebody would notice my hair

Now, I go without missing my meetings for 2 1/2 weeks

My electrolygist said that I will experience reduction every 41/2 months & I have noticed that myself. I am waiting for the next 2 waves of reduction… i.e. 13 1/2 month & 18th month. I intend to continue for another 6 months (till about 18 months), am not sure if will be able to continue after that…

Thanks to everyone for all your valuable feed back on this forum. I will keep updating you on my Progress

June

Happy Anniversary. Did the year seem to go by pretty fast? Do you have any numbers to share from your excel spread sheet? Number of treatments? Cost? etc.

Dee

Thanks Dee, I have sent you a Private Message about the details…

Thanks June, I got your message. I went back and reviewed your photos. You had a lot of hair for sure. Is there any way you could submit some photos so we can see where you are today? Your previous photos were wonderfully clear, by the way!

Dee

Hi Dee,

Here are some pictures I took y’day… they are taken 10 days after my last treatment… Let me know your thoughts, how long will I have to continue before I can be considered done?

Yes,I could see your photo’s just fine. Thank you. Did you move the original photos you took in the beginning to the kodak account?

You have definitly improved over the past year, June. The hair looks thinner, but you will need more treatments according to what I see. If you remain consistent and shoot for clearance every single time on all areas, this will go faster for you. As is, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that you are finished in good measure by month 18. You are doing well and your electrologist is giving you effective treatments.

It cannot be said enough that getting cleared of all noticable hair everytime one walks out of their practitioners office will speed the process along. If one can’t afford to do this, then
success will take longer, but it will still be yours in the end.

Lastly, clients typically need short cleanup appointments, after regular treatments end, at least 1-6 times per year if there continue to be hormonal challenges that keep targeting the facial follicles.

Thanks so June for your participation here on hairtell.

Dee

Hi Dee,

I think Yahoo stopped their photo service so they prompted me to move my pictures it to another photo service provider…

I am not certain if I will be able to continue after the 18th month to get the cleanup appointments. Say I stop after 18 months & restart my electrolysis a year after my 18th month… Will I have to go thru electrolysis again for another 9-12 months? Will there be a lot of growth?

If yes, how do I deal with it (my guess is shave/trim/bleach?) I dont want to start waxing/tweazing again as I understand, the whole treatment will go waste… is that true?

Thanks!
June

June,

Once a hair follicle is “destroyed” it will never come back. You have already had thousands of hair follicles “destroyed”, so rejoice in that fact.

Electrolysis is a permanent process. You may never need to think of regular treatments for 9-12 months again like you have just been through. You do not need to repeat treatment on the hair follicles that have already been treated these past 12 months. They are gone for good. Electrolysis can not prevent new follicles from coming to life in the future if you are hormonally vulnerable. That’s why you MAY need a few cleanups throughout your life cycle. I emphasize the word “MAY”.

Go in and zap any new hairs that come to life whether it be in two years from now or ten years from now. We are not talking about a series of treatments like you are going through now. You are assuming that as soon as you go through about 18 months of treatments, that you will have to start all over again. That is not the way it works. Electrolysis is permanent hair removal at it’s finest, but one should not expect that electrolysis will prevent you from developing any new hair at certain times in your life cycle. Forget the shaving, bleaching, trimming stuff and stay on top of any NEW hair growth that may come alive. Get those new hairs, if any come later on. It’s just that simple.

Dee

Hi June:

I did have a look at your photos and I could see why the facial hair would bother you so much.I would recommend you stick with regular treatments by thermolysis method. My facial hair was way more than you have and we treated it almost exclusively with thermolysis. I now have just a few scattered hairs to be removed.

As far as removal between electrolysis sessions goes, I think I would go with shaving. It is quick and easy, and leaves a good smooth, clean look. It will not promote more growth!! You don’t have to let your hair grow out as much as you have shown in the photos before treatment. If they are long enough to see and get a set of tweezers on, then they are long enough to treat.

I wish you luck. Just remember to never give up, and stick with it.

Alicia

Thanks Dee & Aliciadarling…

Aliciadarling… question for you,

When were you done i.e. after how many months & how many treatments later did you started going only for cleanups?

As for letting my hair grow too much, I generally go once in 2 to 21/2 weeks & I clip my hair once after about 10 days… In the pictures you see, I had not clipped my hair… Ideally I wld’ve liked to go sooner for my treatments but I am not able to due to financial reasons…

Thanks,
June

Hi June:

Firstly, my facial hair was a lot more than you have to begin with so I hope you will not need nearly as much electrolysis as I did.

I started out with some laser sessions for about 6 months.
After that I went for electrolysis exclusively for 2 hour sessions, every 2 weeks. I have been going for the electrolysis for about 3-1/2 years in total. There were a couple of breaks thrown in there for a month to 6 weeks, vacations, travel etc.,
so in total I have had about 150 hours on my face.

I don’t need to shave at all anymore, and the only reason I am still going is that I am very, very fussy about any facial hair, especially any stubbly type of hairs. I am also getting hair removed on other parts of my body at the same time.

I would go for the thermolysis if I were in your position since you can clear a lot of hair, and it will make you feel better about yourself to have a clear face.

Alicia

Alicia gives great advice as usual! She’s an expert here so listen well when she says, “Never give up!”

The finacial part of hair removal is tough no doubt, but keep reasoning that this is permanent and you won’t always have to live this way. Every 2-2 1/2 weeks is very acceptable. It is always advisable to keep getting fully cleared after each session. If this can’t be attained, then it will take longer. There comes a point where your appointments should space out to every 3-4 weeks and then every 4-6 weeks. I can’t tell you where you should be excatly because you are not my client,June. All I can do is fall behind Miss Alicia and say, “Never give up”.

Dee

Thanks Again Alicia & Dee… Really appreciate your encouragement… I will defy try not to give up!

Dee thanks for your prompt replies to my Private messages

I will keep you updated on my Progress…

June

Hi June:

When I first started out with electrolysis, I could only get partial clearance in a two hour session. I could only get my upper lip cleared and my lower lip and chin area beneath my lower lip. Every time I went I started with that area, and as time went on I could get that area cleared and then we could do other areas such as the side burns and cheeks.

I think when I made the big breakthrough was around the 120 hour mark, when we started to get the entire face and neck cleared in 2 hours or less. Then that time droped to 1-3/4 hours, then 1-1/2, then one hour. Finally we got to the stage where we could clear the entire face and neck in 1/2 hour or less, and what did grow was very sparsely scattered, and hard to see unless someone looked very, very closely.

I know that there were times when I thought it would never end, but it will and it does get better. Then when you do reach a point such as the one I am at you will be very happy with the results. It has made an amazing difference in my life. I know that some day you will reach that happy point with your hair removal.

Alicia

Hi All,

Happy New year 2008 to everyone! Time for an update. So its been around 1 year & 3 months. I have been seeing progress over the last year but saw significant progress in the past 3 months.

There is a significant reduction in hair growth. I think its reduced by almost 60% (if not more) The growth itself has slowed down as well. Intially within 7-10 days I would go crazy with all the hair growing back. Now evern after 3 weeks I am ok with not going but I go once in 3 weeks… is that ok? or should I go more often?

The hair seems thinner than it used to be (still a lot of thick hairs but thinner that I initially started). A lot of the ingrowns have been removed. As a result of which I dont see black spots in the skin anymore

Initially the hair follicle seemed distorted with hair growing in all directions & was very deep rooted, now the hair seems to have structure & doesnt look deep rooted anymore

In general, I am happy… I sometimes wish I was done by now but hopefully I will be done soon! I will post some pictures sometime this week… until then bye & good luck to everyone who’ve embarked this journey of electrolysis! & again thanks a ton to all the regular gurus who have consistently posted over the many years

June

I have uploaded some new pictures. I have not gone for electrolysis for the past 3 weeks & there is some hair growth. I wanted to upload those pictures. If you compare those pictures to the ones I had taken before starting electrolysis, you will notice the hair growth…

June, thanks for the photo’s.

Do you get cleared everytime you leave the office? Which modality does your electrologist use mainly, blend or thermolysis?

How many sessions have you had in the last 15 months? Have you been steadily going every 2- 3 weeks since starting?

You have definitely improved, but… I’m wondering about those questions above.
