I am 15 and just started to see hair growing all over me! Side burns the grow so long that it goes all the way down under my neck. How do I get rid of these stupid side burns without getting bumps? I also have hair on my stomach and chest. These are the only places that really drive me mad. I have black bump/spots under my neck and my chest from trying to remove it with waxing. I tried to wax my chest but the hairs would not come off! Plucking them just made same old spots that I get under my neck spots. When shaving it like my mom does the spots remained there and it grew back faster! I am thinking of using Care Free hair removal cream that I use on my legs but I do not know if that is a good idea. I also wanna get rid of the spots and bumps. I miss wearing regular shirts and not t-shirts D:
Sounds like the waxing and tweezing are causing ingrown hairs. Shaving has no effect on hair growth. None.
A depilatory, such as Care Free will help dissolve the hair a little below the skin, but it is a chemical irritant, so it may give you other undesirable side effects, specifically, a chemical burn. Not only are dissolving hair, but you can also dissolve the top layer of skin. It may be too harsh for you. Temporary methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Visit www.hairfacts.com and study the different methods available.
If you were my daughter, I would explore electrolysis for your side burns and neck. If your hair is fine and dark on your chest and abdomen, you need electrolysis to PERMANENTLY rid yourself of the hair that is there right now. No method will stop new hair from coming alive as you age if you are genetically bound to be hairy. Also, you may want to get a medical evaluation. This is wise advise because maybe there is something that could be done to block new hair from becoming noticable in the future.
Discuss this with your Mother and both of you can start the process of educating yourself about hair growth causes and solutions.
I know this is very general information. A good book to read to start your education is:
The Hormonally Vulnerable Woman by Geoffrey Redmond M.D
I’m assuming you’re female. Have you talked to your mother about this? If I were you, I would schedule an appointment with a good endocrinologist. You’ll probably fine, but it wouldn’t hurt to get tested for potential hormonal imbalance conditions, which can be hereditary too.
You should also start to carefully read information on this site. You have several options for the hair. Most are temporary and two (electrolysis and laser) are permanent. Shaving is a good temporary method since it doesn’t make hair growth worse like other temporary methods can. It won’t make your pigmentation issues worse either. You should consult a dermatologist regarding pigmentation btw. Tea Tree oil can help heal the spots for now. If you have the money, electrolysis or laser (laser only for the areas that have coarse hair) are permanent methods. Also, keep in mind that you are still young and are just starting to develop hair. There will probably be more coming in the next few years and that’s why I think you should consult an endocrinologist to make sure you don’t have any underlying conditions, and to possibly get a birth control pill that could help regulate the hormones.
OH OKAY! Yes my mom knows! I haven’t told her about this site because I just found it while doing homework. My mom wants to get it permanently removed but she cannot find any good doctors yet. I will be sure to talk to her.
OKAY! Thank you! This is really good information. This will help me out a lot!
