Hi.
I searched this forum extensively before deciding to start electrolysis. I have currently completed 3 full sessions and 1 consult session, once per week. Sometimes i wait a full 7 days, however last time it was only 5 days before treatment again. I took photos because i am a little concerned, but my practitioner said this is normal and will go away. She also did not say the length of time that is required between treatments , just as long as hair is growing. I noticed the pain is more intense because it seems my skin is sensitive due to the healing process. I have attached before photos and after photos because it seems so intense. I am not acne prone and i have fair skin. I used background remover to protect my privacy. I would like advice and i am happy to provide more details in private messaging
Too much scabbing on the upper lip!
Keep the area clean and moist (don’t over-do it: just GENTLE washing; no scrubbing).* Allow the water to soften the scabs and then apply your moisturizer. Wait until total healing takes place before you have another treatment on that area. Wait at least a month. The upper lip and “chin pads” are the number one danger areas.
*If you can find PURE 100% emu oil … apply it … yes, it’s stinky. Emu oil is remarkably anti-inflammatory and, in many cases, eliminates scab formation. I don’t like recommending actual products, but in your case this might be a game changer.
Generally, people don’t like emu oil because it’s 100% animal. People prefer “botanicals.” However, we are not flowers … and animal products often work minor miracles. The ancient history of emu oil is fascinating.
Do you know if insulated needles are used for your treatments? If you can’t find emu oil, try using Bepanthen cream with an occlusive. I like Glad press and seal wrap. Apply a good layer as soon as you can after treatments and occlude it for several hours or over night. Repeat this process for several days. I found this method and adding diluted tea tree oil too in moderate amounts speeds up with removing the scabs and reducing redness.
Thank you very much. I ordered the pure emu oil online the day of your reply and it is being shipped. I went into my previous session with redness and healing still from the prior session; I want to trust my electrologist and she did not say anything about the scabs being abnormal. At the end of the session I mentioned how hard it is to walk around looking like that with all those scabs, but that was pretty much the end of the convo. She is also an esthetician so being her knowledge is in skincare I want to trust that she is knowledgeable enough to either adjust the settings or space out my sessions longer, if she thought the outcome was not appropriate or if I was at risk for skin damage.
Hi, I am unsure if they are insulated. But what I read on here, I believe they should be to avoid scabbing like this. She uses the newest apilus senior machine. I ordered the emu oil, but I will also add tea tree oil as well. Its just very frustrating because now instead of hair, its just all red and scabbed and as someone who never wears makeup, I either have to hide behind my covid mask in public or put makeup on it a few days later so people that know me are not wondering what happened to my face
Your tea tree oil is used and a “natural antiseptic” and once you have scabs there is no need for it. The emu oil can be applied immediately (anti-inflammation properties) … and the purpose of it is to greatly minimize the formation of scabs … and have scabs slough off rapidly.
I’m not a fan of mixing products that have dissimilar reasons for their use. Too much tea tree can cause some inflammation; while the emu oil is anti-inflammatory. I would say try ONE product alone at a time and see how your skin reacts. Also, for God’s sake, have your esthetician suggest some proper make-up for you that can be applied the next day. Who wants to walk around with scabs on their upper lip?
