help please - skin mate elite equ/290

Please can you advise me? I am housebound & can’t get to a salon & being fed up with the clumsy One Touch I have (mistakenly I know as you don’t recommend DIY thermolysis) bought a skin mate elite equ/290:

& also Hinkle & Lind’s book ‘Electrolysis, Thermolysis and the Blend’

Please can you tell me which part of the leg I should practice on before starting on my face, & if possible which settings I should use first - presumably the lowest ones? Is it OK to do the insertion twice if the first one doesn’t work, or should the hair just be left alone?

many thanks

(58 year old housebound female with dark ‘beard’ growth - coarse on upper lip and chin because of plucking, and long and fine on sides of face and neck under chin)

You really want to get a galvainc unit, or a blend capable pro unit. But if you insist on using this, multiple zaps are ok, as long as your insertions are good. One would practice on the lower leg, of the leg opposite of your dominate hand.

If you are right handed, you would begin your practice on the inside of the left leg from the calf muscle to the shin bone. Only after you have mastered both the insertions and settings to get good work done there, should you attempt any work on your face.

Why don’t you tell us where in the UK you are. We may be able to help you better than your wildest dreams.

I would feel better if you upgraded to the Skin-Mate Elite Blend:

Thank you so much for your help James, you are so kind & you give me hope.

I’m in the UK in Somerset south of the city of Bath. There is a salon in my town but they don’t home visit.

I’ll have a go on my leg with the one I’ve got first & see if I can do it without burning holes in myself.

I can now do insertions with confidence using the dratted One Touch (the needle is just too big)in the middle of my face but not to the sides as I can’t get the angle right.

Am I right in thinking that getting the angle wrong with thermolysis would cause burns?

thank you

You are absolutely correct!

Since Diathermy/Thermolysis desiccates the tissue the probe is in contact with, laying the probe/needle on the side of the skin is a sure fire way to vaporize the surface skin. While poor insertions are somewhat forgiven in galvanic and blend, Diathermy will not give you any feedback on your poor placement until you already have a hole in your skin.

Even professional electrologists don’t treat their own faces. It’s very hard to get proper insertions to kill the hair and not cause scarring.

Do you have someone else who can do this for you?

Thank you James, it does sound rather frightening.

No LAgirl, I don’t know anyone who would do this, I’d really love to have professional treatment.
