Help Needed! Electrolysis or laser for lower legs

Hello everyone!

I am a white female with pale-olive skin and with black-dark brown thick hair on my legs. My legs are medium hairy. I want to get rid of them so badly, very fed up with shaving and waxing.
So I cannot decide between electrolysis and laser. Which one is cheaper ? I also live in London so any recommendations will be welcomed) ( I already checked British electrologist society)

Thanks in advance

Electrolysis is the only method, which can guarantee 100% permanent hair removal results. This is why I would recommend you this method to eradicate your body hair.
About the price, it depends of the practitioner of course but as I said, electrolysis is 100% permanent hair removal method.

Each one has pros and cons. It would help for you to post a picture

According to the FDA, electrolysis is the only method for a permanent hair removal.

That is a true statement, indeed! Before laser hair reduction, we did it all.

I have seen some nice work on hairy legs with properly performed laser on good candidates and it is permanent hair reduction. Me, the Electrologist, then can quickly knock out the hairs that laser can’t see and affect, which aren’t many. When both modalities are chosen, the results can be really nice options for the hairy legged client.

Highest success rates with laser is treating leg hair. My sister had 100% “reduction” on her legs with laser and that was a few years ago already. You will have to do some homework and find a place with good lasers and reputation.

Now if you have the time, patience and money, of course you can go for electrolysis but you will also have to get lucky to find a technician who isn’t a high tech plucker wasting your $$.

Thanks everyone for your reply!

As you can see from the pictures i have more hair around “socks” line. I am going to have an appointment with electrologist in the couple of days. To clear the lower legs will probably cost me a fortune. I am thinking of getting the first clearance done on my lower legs and then buying the electrolysis home kit and I will make my boyfriend  do it for me from then on. Is “One Touch” the only option? And if it is done properly is it as effective as the machines in the salon, and will I not get scarring or pigmentation?

Thank you once again, it is very nice to see that there is a forum out there with real people and professionals who are willing to give advice!

Hi SaMaria,
You have lovely dark textured “juicy” hairs that will treat very well on diode laser. Lumenis Lightsheer diode if you can find. It’ll be faster, cheaper and less painful. Just make sure you find a reputable clinic and experienced tech. Whatever is left after 6 treatments, finish with electrolysis as Dee advised. Don’t go crazy paying for 8-10 treatments. It’s a waste in this case.
I am more keen electrologist then laser practitioner and I have seen the results from both.

Thanks!
Since you are in UK) would you be able to recommend anyone?)

44 people downloaded my hairy legs but I still need some advice) btw would it be very naughty to wax or pluck between sessions, maybe once or twice?

Hair follicles can’t be destroyed if hair is not present inside follicles. Waxing and plucking delays hair growth between sessions so it will only prolong the overall process, delay results and waste your time and money.

What I mean is if after first session of electrolysis or laser I will have my legs waxed, then when the hair will grow back I will do my next session of electrolysis.

Waxing between sessions will only make things take longer to permanently get rid of since you are pulling a hair out that might go dormant and not grow back in time for your next session. A hair you wax today might not be back again for another 6 months. If you do that between every session, instead of being done in a year, you could be looking at several years to get all the hair.

It’s best to just leave the hair there and shave/trim between sessions if you need to.

You can shave between laser/electrology but not plucking or waxing.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

I am going to get a laser done on my legs, underarms and bikini. If there will be any hair left after or if the laser would not work for me I will switch to electrolysis.
I found the laser place where they do it on Lumenis Lightsheer diode as was advised earlier.

I will keep everyone updated how my session goes if any of you are interested!

Will be getting my 24hr patch test in a couple of days.
