Help me to help my wife.

I have been reading these forums for a number of months now and have found them to be very informative and therapeutic. There are some very warm hearted people on this site who take their time out to help people who are struggling with their demons.

I`m posting this message on behalf of my wife as I love her very much and want to support her in her issue of unwanted hair. She is 25 years old, in good health but she has hairs on her chin and sides of her face which she wants permanently removed. She is very down and depressed about it which in turn saddens me.

My question is that she started developing these hairs about two years ago and has never attempted to remove them in anyway. They are actually very fine and soft and she has about 20-30 hairs on her chin. She has had about 4 treatments on her chin and she is very happy and it takes about 2 to 3 weeks before they start growing back. My question is since she has never done anything to them, how many treatments will be required to remove these hairs on her chin? I am just looking for a guesstimate. Our wedding is in the final week of march and she is going for treatment every week? We have 7 weeks. Will we make it?

It takes a minimum of 9-12 months to fully clear an area of hair permanently, assuming no brand new hairs are born in that time.

However, a good electrologist can treat her on a schedule so that her face is hairless and have her skin looking great for her wedding. She should definitely talk to her electrologist about her upcoming wedding.

If the treatment is producing full clearances by the middle of February (if they are not doing that already) then you will have the ability to at least have her showing a hairfree face on her wedding day, and the possibility of taking as much as a 3 week vacation from treatments, and still look like she was finished during those weeks.

Although she can’t be finished and done with treatments before her wedding, she can at least appear to not have any unwanted hair in time for this appointment with destiny.

Thanks for your post.
I think a lot of ladies need to see that we men really do have a lot of compassion for them in this regard, and we are supportive.

Just one more thing, can you verify that you care so little about the unwanted hair thing that you would marry her even if she wasn’t doing permanent hair removal. It would help many ladies to hear that from someone other than me.

Since hair grows in cycles, please do be aware that the electrologist is not treating the same hairs every time. Very fine soft hairs should be permanently gone with the first treatment, so the hairs showing up between treatments are newly growing hairs. The number of hairs should be reduced within a few months of beginning treatments - and she can definitely be cleaned up for the wedding.

Something to be aware of is the fact that her body might produce some new hairs over time. This might be a lot or just a couple. Individual physiology controls this and the variable include sensitivity to normal androgens, hormones, medications and even nutrition.

Best wishes to you and your bride!

There are so many factors to consider here that I would never try to predict the future. We treat the hair follicle to prevent it from growing another hair NOT THE CAUSE. She had hairs shed in the same general area and I do not know how many or when they were cast off. She may have numerous follicles that are “waking up” and could grow hairs in that same general area but we do not know.Due to her young age and the common locations where she is growing hair, it is very possible there will be more follicles awakening and show up in a few days or weeks. All hair growth on females in areas where females generally do not grow hair but males do is called a “male pattern distribution”. It is often a symptom of a hormone imbalance. If it is, there are additional symptoms. Hair on the abdomen, chest, breasts, inside the upper thighs, or back are only a few possibilities. Other possibilities are irregular periods (less than 21 days or over 31 days) or skipped periods. Do not ignore this if she fits any of these symptoms. You can prevent the hair from spreading to adjacent areas but once it starts in new places it has to be treated. Prevention is better than treatment.
