Help! I've been burned!! Warning: Way TMI

Hello-

In a desperate search for relief, I stumbled across this forum. Thank goodness for all of you wonderful people!
I am a skin type III and am in the process of getting brazilian hair reduction using IPL. I had my third treatment last monday. This is where my story gets to be too much info:

For some reason, the skin on the inside of the outer “lips” of my private part(does that make sense?) got burned, the part that I wipe when I pee. I don’t know why she would have zapped that area, because hair doesn’t grow there. Now, everytime I wipe, my charred skin comes off on the toilet paper, and I now have really bad burns down there. I think the top several layers of skin have come off. I am also itchy in parts, but have been very careful to not scratch, and now I’m just lightly “patting” intead of wiping when I pee, then rinsing in the shower. I’m thinking it might be infected because the pain has gotten to be unbearable over the last several hours.

I’ve tried burn creams- that makes the pain much much worse. As I type this, I’m lying on an ice pack, which seems to help a little. Also, I’m taking Ibprophen.

I’ve never gone through any drastic beauty treatments before this, so I don’t know if this is normal or not. No, this isn’t some sort of weird STD- I’ve been with my husband for 11 years.

I called my medispa this afternoon and left a message, and havent heard back from them yet.

I’m in so much pain! Also, I’m pretty angry with my tech because my skin is rather dark down there, so I feel like she should have known to avoid that area. I’ve read that dark skin burns easily.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Any advice? Any suggestions for relief until the medispa calls me back?

I was so pleased with my treatments up until this. Now, I’m not sure I want to continue, but I’ve already paid for all 8 treatments, and only recieved 3.

Thank you so much.

Call your physician.

Yes, I agree, except I would put an exclaimation point behind that statement.

This definitely isn’t normal. You got burned (IPL is not best for LHR, the person may have not been experienced and set settings too high, etc). You should see a physician to get proper treatment.

Seriously, get a medical evaluation asap,if you think you are infected. Did you take your temperature? Did you look at the area as well? Keep it clean as you are doing while you are waiting to see a doctor. This is one time I won’t ask if a photo can be submitted. I’m sorry for your plight.

The medspa physician and the laser operator should see this as well. Take photos for your own reference and to show the medspa if you can’t show them in person.
