so i’m a girl and i have coarse hair growth on my chin, cheeks, sideburns, and neck and it’s so bad that i have to shave it everyday or else i’ll feel stubble (especially on my chin)…i feel pretty self-conscious about it and my mom says its noticeable that i shave bc my chin is darker ( i have black hair and dark brown skin)…
…my question really is, is electrolysis right for me? does it work for everyone? is it okay that i’ve been shaving? how long will it take on AVERAGE to remove the hair in the locations i’ve mentioned (longer than a year?)…and am i allowed to shave between treatments, bc the last thing i need is people seeing my “beard”!
first, you should schedule an appt with an endocrinologist and see if you have a hormonal imbalance. with so much coarse hair growth, it is a possibility and some stabilizing birth control may help already.
if all the hair you’re talking about is coarse, laser is an option as wel. you would need to start with a Yag laser (since your skin is dark) and get most of the dark coarse hairs. then you can finish with electrolysis on the rest that remain, which will be finer.
It’s up to you whether electrolysis (when performed properly) is right for you. If you want permanent hair removal then personally I think it’s worth it. You’re looking at regular treatments over the course of at least a year to get rid of the bulk of it, followed by a few months more to get rid of any remaining. Yes you can shave between appointments, although it sounds as if shaving is making your skin react. One other option is Vaniqa cream (from your doctor) to temporarily stop the hair growing if you can’t commit to electrolysis yet.
