HELP!!! Electrolysis not working

Hello,

I’m brand new here. I started doing electrolysis back in January. I’ve done a total of 13 one hour sessions (weekly) and about 3 1/2 sessions. I started noticing that my electrologist was basically “plucking” my hair instead of actually treating it (this is just my opinion) She seems to just “go too fast”. Anyways, my face has shown a 10% improvement (if any). Is this normal? I’m I overreacting? I’m trying to look for another electrologist here in Miami but I’m scared somebody may scar my face or scam me again. Any suggestions? Please ?!

I don’t understand your statement, “I’ve done a total of 13 one hour sessions (weekly) and about 3 1/2 sessions.” Still, you have hit upon a few classic points that are recurring themes in electrology.

First theme: the "plucking thing.’ My colleagues here will explain this in lurid detail … and kudos to those that get into this important subject. (I can’t talk about it because my head will explode.)

And further, the emphasis on "going fast’ can be detrimental to treatment success. In my book there is no "going fast’ … there is ONLY removing hairs permanently. And, that means not focusing on how many hairs you can "get out per hour,’ but doing a proper job. You aren’t paying for "hairs yanked out per hour’ … you are paying for hairs properly treated. (This is a common error made by beginning electrologists.)

In all my classes, I would say, "Slow down … and GO FASTER!’ (People here will know what I mean.)

My next issue is the clients overwhelming fear of getting SCARS from electrology. Clients that repeatedly express this fear to their electrologist often end up getting insufficient treatment. Many electrologists are already fearful of their own procedure and injuring the client, and when you add in your own anxiety … well, you end up getting an expensive TWEEZE JOB!

Scarring from electrolysis is extremely rare, but you could be adding to treatment failure by repeatedly voicing your apprehension about SCARS.

maybe? maybe not.

There’s quite a bit of information missing. 13 hours over what period of time? If a hair does grow back after electrolysis it can take 3-4 months to generate a new hair and for it to grow to the surface. IT’s almost impossible to tell one hair from another, therefore how do you know the regrowth is not hair that was out of growth phase hairs that werent visible before treatment?

As for “plucking” what makes you think the electrologist is plucking? Do you see the skin tent? Are you feeling the hairs rip the root when they come out or are they withdrawing easily?

In my opinion, the first hours on a face are the haardest to judge. If she is getting good release of the hair, I would say then that your concern is unwarranted.

Seana

I started going in mid January, every single Saturday for 1 hour treatments, until May 1st when I reduced them to 1/2 hour treatments because I feel like this lady is stealing my money, and I’m trying to find another electrologist.

I only had a 2 week break in between because the lady was out of the country.

Hello Seana,

13 hours over a 4 month period (mid Jan until May 1st) and 2 half an hour sessions from May 1st until now.

The same hair that she seems to “treat” grows back within 4-6 days.

My face is red the first 24 hours and I have some scabs but my skin heals within 1 week.

Thank you all for your input. I will be taking pictures soon and I would love your opinion.

Yep … well, “join the club.”

When I began electrolysis on my back, I went weekly for 1 - 2 hours for two years and got no more than 10% reduction. This failure inspired my interest in entering the field.

Others will pick up your statement, but “the same hair” does not grow back in 4 - 6 days. Gotta work on this one.

As stated, there is only one way for a hair to grow back in 5-6 days, and that is if the hair is broken off in the follicle . Again, the best measure of effectiveness, is the release of the hair. It’s impossible to tell one hair from another, though many clients think they can. There are far more out of phase hairs than you realize.

Then she is definitely not treating my hair. The same hair that she “treats” on both my cheeks comes back by Wednesday (sometimes Thursday) after my Saturday treatments.

Any suggestions for a decent electrologist in Miami?
