Hello from a new DIYer. Looking for magnification advice

Hello everyone! I have been lurking here for about two years. first as an electrolysis patient, and now as a self-taught student. My name is Julieta.

I recently got a machine and started practicing on my own legs. I’m currently studying the Milady hair removal book and watching the Hinkel videos. I also have a few friends letting me practice on their faces for free (they are fully aware of the risks and that I’m a beginner!).

Right now, I’m using an 8x magnification ring light from AliExpress, but I want to upgrade to something better. I live in Germany. I read great things here about the Zeiss OPMI 99, but it’s a bit hard to source locally, especially since I’m in Berlin and don’t have a car to transport heavy equipment.

I was thinking about getting some headband loupes, but I’m not sure what to get. Could anyone help me pick something out that is available in Europe?

My absolute maximum budget is €1,000, though ideally, I would prefer to spend around €200–€300 since I have other expenses I should take care off aswell. However, my priority is learning the craft the best I can and investing in equipment that allows me to do good work.

Thank you all so much for the wealth of information and the good intentions you all spread here!

Although it may be difficult to find an Opmi 99 anywhere, as that is a discontinued model now, I can’t see how it would be hard to find a used Zeiss Opmi Stereo Microscope in GERMANY of all places, since that’s where they make them. Try for an Opmi One, or one of the others in the Opmi or Pico line of products. Doctors and hospitals are always upgrading and selling off their old stock. Perhaps you would come across one being sold by a dentist, eye surgeon or gynocologyst who are upgrading or going out of business. Those would be the least expensive.

Thank you very much James! I appreciate the model recomendations. I will look up for those models and see what can i get. Thanks again for your feedback.
