girflfriend saw a laser removal device in a catalogue and is keen to get one - anyway her b’day is next week, so i gotta get moving. we are in the uk, and i had in mind to get the Rio Salon Scanning Laser Hair Remover (www.riolaserhair.com)
Glad you came here to dig a little deeper, that way you won’t waste money.
Not a good purchase for your girlfriend. There is a lot written here on hairtell about home devices and to sum it all up: they won’t work because they are not powerful enough to kill the tough, resilient, obnoxious little hair.
There is no easy, cheap or private way for permanent hair removal unless you are an expert do-it-yourselfer using decent electrolysis equipment.
You can buy your girlfriend a laser package with a skilled facility. That will help her more if she is a good candidate for laser hair reduction (not removal) in the first place. Otherwise, she’d be far, far ahead of the hair removal game by simply getting hooked up with a skilled electrologist.
What area(s) is she concerned with getting hair removed? What color of hair? These questions determine where to start your search if you are considering laser. Electrolysis works for all hair removal needs.
this would be a waste of money. we would all be using these products if they actually worked. buy her a razor as it would be cheaper and more effective. if she wants permanent removal, laser and electrolysis are the only methods and both take time commitment.
dont mean to be pedantic but your post has confused me -
“There is no easy, cheap or private way for permanent hair removal unless”
and then
“she is a good candidate for laser hair reduction (not removal) in the”
So is it infact just reduction of hair and not permanent removal?
Girlfriend has dark hair and fair (pale i guess) skin.
(The prices getting it done professionally are rather prohibitive at present as just about to buy an appartment and halfway throught building a a track-day car.)
She is interested in legs, bikini line or whatever its described as, underarm.
I’m going to take the easy way out and send you to Quackwatch for definitions of laser hair reduction. I’m on the run,so hopefully this will answer your question, dodgy.
Sounds like she may be a good candidate for her legs and bikini line. If money is a problem at this time, then temporary methods will have to suffice.
Lagirl can help you with the power output question or you can look that up on google by requesting specifications from say, an alexandrite laser and a Rio. I’m thinking the Rio maybe a little more powerful than a flashlight. Haha!
Laser is permanent. It won’t remove every single hair, so that’s why it’s classified as ‘reduction’, but she can get to 95-99% removal on the areas that have coarse hair like bikini and underarms(I did). If cost is an issue, she should just consider underarms and regular bikini, which are actually relatively inexpensive. Underarms are usually $100 per treatment and she will need 6-8 (so $800 total over the coarse of 12-16 months) and regular bikini is also around $100-150 per treatment. She can start with underarms and see how it goes. At $100 every 3 months, it’s not that expensive in my opinion.
Legs is a large area and is expensive, so I would leave that for when you have more money. Also, keep in mind that laser works best on dark coarse hair.
