harley medical group uk

hello, im new to this forum and have a question regarding the harley medical group.
does anyone no what laser machine they use and is it effective?
also they claim to treat all colouurs of hair.

im looking to treat my arms and hands first.i also had one treatment with a elipise machine and seen no results, which enraged me as the nurse said i should see good results as i have light skin and dark coarse hair.

any infomation will be helpfull.

It depends on the branch, but mine (Chelmsford) uses Aesthera PPx, which is a waste of money and does not work. I had several treatments (fair skin, dark coarse hair) with no results whatsoever, the hair did not even shed between the treatments. They had quite unhelpful attitude, refusing to admit that the treatments weren’t effective. Apparently, some branches use alexandrite which is effective on skin types I-IV, if used correctly. If I were you I would give them call and querried the type of laser first. From my experience, they were also quite pushy to make you buy full package at the consultation, so be careful.

Laser/IPL cannot permanently reduce all hair colours. It cannot pcik up blonde or white hairs and has very little, if any, effect on red hairs. The reaosn for this is because there is either no or very little pigment in the hair. If your skin is between skin type I - III, an Alexanderlite would be most suited (of cours as long as all the areas are dark and coarse.

Run a search on here (I can remember at least one poster who commented on what he thought of Harley Medical Group) and Google and it should come up with some further reviews of what people think of Harley medical group.

Benji

You need to call them and ask for the name of the machine they use. Please do that and let us know what they say.

i have called them up and it was difficult getting any information from them, but they did tell me they have two machines, one for ‘afro-caribbean type skin’ and one for ‘fair-skinned’. these were the Lyra and Apogee respectively. i had to get transferred to the clinic to find out more which was that they are using the Apogee 755 elite. i heard no mention of ‘Alexanderlite’, and i am confused by all the names.

(this is for the branches in London, under sk:n clinics)

Apogee is an alexandrite laser (light skin) and Lyra is a yag (for people of color).

Lyra is a Yag, for darker skin (not a good one). Apogee is the alex as mentioned.

neptune87 - I can’t find anything here on Harley Medical Group but would love to hear from someone who has used them. I have had a consult with them and just can’t tell if the prices are normal, and they do a good job. The service is good so far.

Prices vary greatly, they generally are more expensive than some places and looking at some of the reports on the lasers/IPL’s they use raises some questions. What was the pricing and the area?

The HMG is rubbish…seriously they are great during the initial consultation but then after that its all downhill. When we went into consultations they talk about a “cooling room” for after the procedure which is a closet with a chair in it, some aloe vera and an ice pack.

When you want to make an appointment you could try calling their booking line but I have to wait an average of half an hour to get through to them.

I have had an experience where I was running late on a 7pm evening appointment. I had been on hold for 48 minutes to ask if it was worth me making the journey into london as that day the tube had decided to break down. But as they take your payment at the point of booking I didn’t want to be charged for missing my appointment. When I got there at 7:20 i was met at the door by someone who just said “sorry we are closing” this was at 40 minutes earlier than they are meant to close. This would have been fine if they had tried to call me to let me know they would be closing early!! When I asked the woman who opened the door for me why nobody had let me know of the early closing or even picked up my call she looked at me blankly and said “sorry everything is closed”.

The next day I was on hold for an impressive 17 minutes to re-schedule.

Trust me, for the amount you pay you can definately get better service somewhere else.

Wow,that sucks. I bet they were charging premium rate to keep you on hold too!

Really!? That does suck! I’m with them and they have been great so far. I go to the one in Harley St - never been offered a cooling room though? The lady that saw me was great. I didn’t have my test patch done on the same day as my consult, as I really wasn’t sure about who to go with, so checked a few places out which they were more than happy for me to do. She gave me her email address and said if I had any questions then just to drop her an email as I had a bad blistering experience from another laser removal place (which I did, and she answered all my questions).

So I went back and got my test patch done, and now this person treats me all the time. I’ve had my full bikini and underarms done - first session was in July and I was 20mins late. But even though the waiting room was packed they squeezed me in (it was early in the morning, rather than the end of the day). My second session was this past Monday and I think I rescheduled this appointment about 5 times (who can stick to plans 6 to 8 weeks in advance, not me thats for sure!) and they were really great, but I ring my clinic directly, not the booking line.

Although I’ve only had two treatments, I’ve been there four times including my initial meet and test (I’m pretty sure I rescheduled and was late for my test patches too!) I’ll say the two people that I dealt with were really lovely. Its like going to see my hairdresser, we chat about holidays, spouses, work and best of all the shedding is great and I’m so much more fuzz free even after two sessions!

If you haven’t tried this already I’d say see if you can stick to someone, so at least they know to be expecting you (if you still have further sessions to go) and maybe get the clinic’s direct line.

I’m curious how all 3 of you newbies from the city place using the same clinic found this forum in the same 2 days.

I was google searching home hair removal methods & fouind this forum, but I’m not in a city.

A friend of mine started laser hair removal a year ago and raved how good her treatments were. So I couldn’t resist and had my initial test patch with the co she had used (not HMG). The nurse at this place didn’t do a melanin test, but she asked lots of questions and then zapped me with the same settings as herself (the nurse and I were the same skin tone - skin type IV). Honestly it felt like I’d been hit with a stun gun!

I had been warned by my friend of the elastic band snap sensation so I figured the pain was a normal reaction. It wasn’t! Half an hour later, I could feel burning. I could do nothing about it cos I was out with friends. A few hours later when I got home my skin had burnt and blistered, I freaked out and searched Google.

The questions on this forum helped me go back to the first co. the next morning and question what this nurse had done, what settings she had used etc.

A few weeks later (still with scabs on my burns) I decided that I had a bad experience with this rubbish nurse and I’d find someone better, especially now that I was armed with more questions, advice, past experiences from this forum!
For me HMG came out on top when I compared answers with other London clinics. I could have just gone to a different nurse at the same place as my friend, but the two scars which are still on my bikini line (my new nurse has told me to exfoliate regularly and they will eventually disappear) remind me to check this forum every now and again

I’m sorry about that experience. That’s unfortunate. Side effects from the burn should go away within a few months as with most superficial burns.
