HAIRY EAR RIMS - NEED SOME ADVICE RE ELECTROLYSIS OR LASER ??

HI ALL

NEW TO THE FORUM, BUT AM SURPISED AND PERVERSELY GLAD THAT THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR ISSUES OUT THERE. ACTUALLY I REALLY FEEL FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS SITE…ENOUGH OF THE DRIVEL…

BASICALLY I HAVE HAIRY EAR RIMS. I AM A 36 YO MALE WHO TENDS TO GO RED AND THEN TAN. I HAVE NOTCIED THAT THE HAIRS HAVE GROWN PROGRESSIVELY OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. I ORIGINALLY HAD A LOT OF WHITE ONES WHICH I CAUGHT IN THE LIGHT ONE DAY AND THOUGHT THEY HAD TO GO SO STARTED TWEEZING…

FAST FORWARD A FEW YEARS AND I AM NOW TWEEZING DARK ONES FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES A DAY OR WHENVER I GO NEAR A MIRROR…MY WIFE THINKS MY VANITY IS OUT OF CONTROL. AS YOU WILL KNOW THE SELF ESTEEM HAS DROPPED AND THE SITUATION IS NOT EXACTLY ONE YOU CAN BRING INTO IDLE CONVERSATION.

I HAVE POSTED ON ANOTHER SITE AND THE GENERAL CONSENSUS IS THAT IT IS BETTER TO GO FOR ELECTROLYSIS AS THE DARK ONES ARE NOT TO THICK AT THE MOMENT AS WELL AS BEING IN A SALL AREA AND THE LIGHT ONES CAN BE GOT AT SAME TIME. LASER TREATMENT WOULD SEEM TOO MUCH AT THIS STAGE DUE TO THE NUMBER OF HAIRS.

CAN ANYONE COMMENT FROM EXPERIENCE AS TO WHETHER ELECTROLYISIS IS THE BEST METHOD AND WHICH TYPE. I READ ABOUT THE SIDE EFFECTS, BUT THIS SEEMS TO VARY FROM PERSON TO PERSON. WHAT IS THE GENERAL REACTION TO THIS TYPE OF TREATMENT. ANY OTHER THOUGHTS WOULD BE MOST WELCOME.

I LIVE IN ENGLAND AND THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE TO MUCH AS FAR AS A GUIDE TO GOOD ELECTROLO GISTS…UNLIKE THE STATES. CAN ANYONE HELP ON THAT FRONT I LIVE NEAR TO MANCHESTER AND CHESTER.

THANKS IS ADVANCE

there are some recommendations here for london, maybe even for manchester. electrolysis is definitely the way to go for this area and situation. start having some consultations with electrologists you can find. hairfacs site that is attached here also has listings.

Don’t feel so bad…I am 28 and have pretty bad ear hair. I thought you only got it when you were old, but I started noticing it when I was about 22 or 23. I think everyone has different hormones/genetics, so hair creeps up when it’s time - whether you are ready or not! I am currently having my ears treated for dark, coarse hairs. I too tweezed for about 5 years before starting electrolysis, so the hairs are pretty thick. I have been happy with the results so far. I have A TON of light hairs, but they don’t seem to stand out as much as the darker hairs. I am also treating my cheeks and neck, and I am thinking of moving on to the the shoulders and back. Once you start getting the hair removed, you sort of become obsessed with hair in other areas.

THANKS THEATRE AND LAGIRL.
THEATRE00,CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT METHODS WERE USED AND HOW LONG ON EACH EAR. I READ THAT IT IS NOT GOOD TO DO BOTH SIDES OF ONE EAR AT ONE. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS. HOW MANY TREATMENTS HAVE YOU BEEN ADVISED THAT YOU MAY NEED.REALLY GRATEFUL FOR SOME ADVICE…AND GOOD LUCK WITH THE TREATMENT

I have been getting treatment on my ears about 2 times a month for the last four months. My electrologist uses the “thermolysis/flash” method, so it does get a little toasty in my ears! Other than the little flash of heat, the procedure is pretty painless with little after effects. I do get tiny scabs on the treated insertion points, but they are VERY SMALL and if you leave them alone, they will naturally fall off during the course of the week(s). I’m not sure what you mean by “both sides of the ear.” I have not experienced any adverse side effects, so far as I can tell. One thing I would advise, and I would imagine the professionals on this site would advise this as well, is to stop plucking the hair! In between treatments, I clip the ear hair with some safety scissors to maintain my regular grooming, but I definitely don’t pluck anymore!

Sorry, I forgot to address the time question. You know, I didn’t even ask my electrologist how much time the ears would take. There is a posting somewhere on this site about how much time different areas of the body need treatment. I wish I knew how to create a link - hopefully some kind soul will read this and post it for you! I was having other areas treated before I started the ears, and I was fairly satisfied with the results and fairly comfortable with my electrologist’s honesty in terms of treatment time. I would imagine that because of the propensity for men to develop ear hair, I will have to make this a regular treatment in the coming years. Hair seems to like to grow on men’s ears!

timing is at least 9-12 months of consistent treatments (spaced 1-2 weeks apart to start, and then moving to more like once a month towards the end). it doesn’t depend on the body area. it depends on how quickly you can get the first clearance so you can move to just touchups faster, i.e. how much hair you’re treating.

and yes, absolutely no plucking through the treatments. that would be wasting your money!

I have had some light ones removed, they grow so long!

They seem to be stubborn suckers, I have had some worked on five times. Maybe the root is drier?

THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL THE HELP AND ADVICE

Ear hair is tough hair. Lots of curvey areas to deal with. I usually do a nice blend on these coarse deep hairs. That’s my preference, but for the lighter, finer, straighter ones, microflash thermolysis works well. It takes patience and a good schedule to make it all work.
