Hairs not shedding after treatment

I have been getting electrolysis on my face because laser didn’t work for me. But I thought I would give laser a try on my body.

So I got my stomach done about three times so far. I don’t think it’s working though because the hair isn’t shedding. Is this true? I don’t want to waste my money like I did on my face if it’s not going to work. The hairs on my stomach aren’t really course there is just a lot of black medium density hairs.

I also decided to try it on my arms. The hair on my arms aren’t as thin a bit thick actually and I just had one treatment so far and the hairs shed just fine. Is this a good sign to keep going on my arms and not stomach?

I am tanned skinned toned and the tech is using the long pulsed Lyra laser.

  • Lyra is NOT a good laser
  • Being tanned is not good for treatments because they have to use even lower settings than usual. You really should wait until your tan fades to have treatments AND to potentially use a more powerful laser than a Yag which is meant for darker skin and therefore is not that powerful. On top of that, Lyra is one of the worst Yags because it has a very small spot size. So if you stick with laser, you should really look for someone with a better Yag like GentleYAG or Coolglide.
  • Laser only works on COARSE hair. It doesn’t sound like that’s what you have on your stomach. Most girls don’t. You likely need electrolysis on that area.

Hmm very interesting. I heard long pulsed lasers were good for darker skin tones that’s why I went with it. I called a few places and no one else had that type of laser. Maybe I’ll try again and see if anyone has the ones you suggested. Also I’m naturally an olive to medium skin tone so my tans not going to fade. Also she said she uses a small spot size on me because she can put the settings higher or something. Like one you would use on a very small area. Ok well I guess I’ll save my money and switch to electrolysis for the finer hair.

Thanks

All lasers specifically manufactured these days for hair removal are long pulsed.

Yes, Yag lasers are meant for darker skin. Do you know your skin type? If it’s darker than type IV, then you definitely NEED a Yag (there is a difference between tanned and naturally dark - you said tanned in your first post, thus my reply). However, Yags are weaker, so if your skin can handle an alexandrite without burning, then it’s better to use it as it’s more powerful. Yags are the only option for skin types darker than type IV, but there are also limitations. One of them is that they definitely won’t work on finer hair whether an alex can have a chance sometimes if it’s not too fine.

Lyra doesn’t have adjustable spot size. It’s small and it can’t be changed. They can change pulse width and joules, but it’s not going to make a huge difference compared to what a good laser, even a good Yag, can do with a good large spot size and proper other settings.
