Hairdepressed, self-conscious and alone. Help?

I have some unwanted upper cheek hair (a continuous growth from the beard line up to my eyes) as well as fine black hair on my forehead and nose (Yes, ON my forehead and nose) that I would like to get rid of permanently.
I’ve had IPL treatments done years ago without any significant improvement or hair reduction - it only stimulated more hair growth and left me severely depressed. What could I have done differently? Having a decent amount of facial and body hair have never made me self-conscious, but having this much does. And lately my skin has been suffering because of it, due to the excessive sweating (caused by my now severe excessive hair growth, I think) and clogged pores. Do I need fairly good skin to have this procedure done? How will electrolysis affect my skin? How often should I get electrolysis? And how long will the course of treatment last?
I’m swedish so my options may be limited

I would appreciate a prompt and informative reply. Thanks

EDIT: Which method would you, as an laser hair removal technician or electrolysis practitioner use to reduce or fully remove my leg, back(possibly buttocks too) and arm hair? Should I combine laser and electrolysis for best possible result? And lastly, how high should the settings be based on my skine type?
Im sorry, I may have got carried away asking questions. I just can’t see myself living on this way with the limitations that I have in Sweden.
I really can’t.

Tjeena Sverige!

Sweden calls again Josse!!! Start getting some sleep and start cooking up some “Lutefisk” with Spanish spices.

This is one of many reasons as to why I was hesitant to use this forum, and i’m already considering removing this thread. It was wrong for me to think that I would get any support here, when really, I won’t.

I viewed your pictures and of course, you are hurting.

I would combine electrolysis and laser. For your legs, I would whack those hairs with a great laser, like an alexandrite. Maybe Romeo (Chris) our laser specialist would like to confirm that or suggest a diode or yag laser instead?

Same for your forearms. Laser. Not the upper arms. Electrolysis there.

For your upper back, laser stimulation is a risk for inducing more hair, so that is where Jossie comes in. She would do a fabulous job with much energy, love and respect.

You can be helped, but you will need much fortitude to hold it together. This can be hard work, but in the end you will feel much better.

I hope Romeo will see this and give you more specifics because he is the laser expert. Know that electrolysis is a great refiner after laser has done the bulk removal. I know you are not probably in a laser frame of mind, but please consider running this by Romeo. Private message him if you have to. He is a great person as well as a very skilled laser specialist.

Welcome to Hairtell .

Ape-like, not to take wrong comment Michael. He has a keen sense of humor. Probably he is trying to tell you that the Electrolysis is the best choice for your hairs. Michael hates (as well as most of us) that someone is victim of the failure of laser or IPL, and he is an active vindicating the need to fight to regain the cheated money.
All can see on the website of Michael, the photo of a couple of Swedish youths that he himself had trained in the past, you can send a private message to obtain the personal data of these electrologists.
I can recognize symptoms of stimulation-induced by the IPL. It is a pattern of very strange growth that produces a thin hair and very, very long in the back of the neck. I would like to put some similar cases. In my opinion, your hairs (still quite dark) lack of color in the root, reason why the cost of a reduction with a new laser treatment before electrolysis would be very high.

(Michael, although I would like to, I cannot accept new cases, Spanish food is absolutely healthy, but unfortunately has no effect on time. However, I would be willing to cook a delicious “paella”, if you are motivated to come to help me. )

This is one of the cases which I have spoken to you. 10 sessions of laser and 10 sessions of IPL, the growth pattern is unusual because in a normal situation, the hair usually develop before on both sides of the sides of the back and gradually rises to join with the shoulders and down to join the lumbosacral area. Here, this is happening on the contrary, the development of the hairs has started up, shaped layer short, similar to that used by knights at the end of the 19th century.

Before

3 weeks later…

Ape - Michael’s comment was in good spirits. There have been a number of European clients who have visited Josefa to have work done by her… and it seems there is another call from Sweeden for her kind of work.

To Dee’s comment, all good advice. The only thing I would like to add is that I’m not sure your leg and lower arm hair is coarse enough for Laser. It seems dark brown and fine but dense.

I agree, Romeo can offer better advice.

IPL is not Laser. If you can find a good clinic with an Alexandrite, you can have a test patch. From my experience, if the treatment has worked, the hair will shed. After this, if you can, wait some months, in my experience the test patch area never recovers the full density. Laser may be able to give you a reduction in a few treatments, if that is what you want. For total removal, you’d have to switch to electrolysis. Which then brings up the question, why not from the start if you can find someone who can tackle a large amount of work.

Bad news first:

Even though your hair seems dense, laser might still not be very successful. The skill of the technician just as important as the right hair and the few posts I’ve read from Sweden about laser are very disheartening.

I’ve also seen no mention of electrologists in Sweden or Norway who are able or willing to do marathon work. Nevertheless, you may be able to find someone locally who can help you with the facial hair.

Go to www.shr.nu/ and click on the top menu where it says “Salonger”. It will take you to a page that has a PDF file named

Certifikat för nålepilation (tidigare diatermicertifikat)

Apparently it lists certified electrologists in Sweden. You could visit a few of them and get test patches.

Josefa or Josse/Jossie (depilacionelectr) is a great electrologist in Spain, who does big cases like yours but it sounds like she’s hopelessly overbooked at the moment.

The good news: If you are able to travel you might find someone in nearby countries. There are also some pretty good electrologists in Germany who do marathon work.

ETA:

Do I need fairly good skin to have this procedure done?

No. Some people start treatments with a skin that is very irritated because of the hair, but in the hands of a good electrologist you’ll see it become much better.

How will electrolysis affect my skin?

Ideally in the face there should only be some temporary redness and swelling. Ideally.

Body work will look different. Here is a very good thread with pictures on what to expect.

Once you are completely finished with all treatments the skin should look as always, only without hair.

How often should I get electrolysis?

On the body you can go every three months for a complete clearance. The hair should be gone after 5-6 clearances.

On the face you can go as often as you need. Some go every week at first and then space out visits as the hair becomes less. Others go every 2-3 weeks, etc.

And how long will the course of treatment last?

Depending on the electrologist, the area involved and how committed the client is, should not take more than 2 years.

PS. Oh yeah, here is Michael Bono’s website. He might also know some good electrologists in Sweden.

A small correction, Notadelphin:

  1. If the development of new hairs in the area finished,
  2. most of the hairs are present before the start,
    and 3.-the intervals are 3, 4 or 5 months,
3 clearances are sufficient to put an end to more than 95% of the hairs.

Whatever be the zone, facial or body.

Thanks for the clarification Jossie. Indeed, statements made on the internet are often misunderstood. I few times I have had folks angry with me (perhaps/maybe), and I didn’t know why. Without speaking in person, all the body language and intonation is lost — we are left only interpreting the word-symbols. Sometimes we put the “accent” on the wrong “sil-ah-bulls.” Yeah, I thought I was helping the Swedish guy … I have a lot of Swedish & Norwegian friends and almost feel like it’s my second home.

Furthermore, the impact of the written word has a thousand times more impact than a spoken comment. For those on any “spiritual quest,” read the book “the Alphabet and the Goddess.” This is a stunning revelation by a brilliant writer.

His theory is that before any religion is written down, it is “open,” eclectic and usually “goddess based.” Once the religion is in written form, it becomes a hard unyielding law, closed, male-based (often violent), and antagonistic to all other religions. The “word” becomes the religion itself; not the underlying spiritual meaning. For this reason, the great masters never wrote anything themselves (Jesus, Buddha, etc). A very fascinating read and it relates to almost anything we “believe in.”

The fault was mine, I misinterpreted your reply and I do apologise for that. I know now that you had good intentions and by no means were trying to offend me.

I looked at your website, as suggested and was(and still am) pleasantly surprised by the work you’ve done. Personally, I would love to have my hair removed or thinned/feathered in a natural way, as oppose to having a “shaved look” by removing it all. Unfortunately, it would be difficult to achieve similar results or anything remotely close to your work in my country.

I also would like to point out how grateful I am to have found hairtell. I’d like to thank all of you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to reply back and for the information you so willingly provide - It means a lot to me.

– Many of you suggest that I should go the electrolysis route - isn’t that extremely costly? I’m not sure whether or not I have the finances to do so

Oh my … no problem.

I am thinking about you. I was one of those apes (actually MUCH more than you). I’m an old dude now but still have hairless skin and I still love it! Maybe I will post a photo on me here on Hairtell. Hell, if James can “go naked” here why not me? (Well, not naked.)

I would contact Jossie, get the name of her “Sterkan” from Sweden. Meanwhile I can send you the email of Anders Mårder in Stockholm (Taby) … lived with me for a year and knows the deal.

Look, be well, the gang here on Hairtell is going to treat you well and help you solve this problem. DAMN IT I hate hair!

Something familiar about those photos Josefa
The results are SPECTACULAR now, almost 2 months after the 1 clearing. I cant wait to show you

Ape-like: You will find plenty of advise and help on this forum. You have definitely come to the right place. I think that you acctually already have begun your journey to be hairfree by joining as a member here on HairTell.

Best wishes

Ape-like,

I have asked Romeo (Chris) to take a look at your pictures to give his thoughts on lasing your legs and forearms. if you have already PM’ed him and he has answered, then I hope his opinions were positive. For the back area, yes electrolysis may be expensive, but it is permanent. If you can locate an electrologist that can seriously and artfully focus to remove this amount of hair asap, then this would be the preferred option for this area. I know that is your dilemma, but it is also a good way to do this to give you relief.

Wishing you all the best

I would do most of the areas with laser and finish off with Electrolysis.

I would work with an Alexandrite Laser

Thanks Chris for helping, Mr. Ape.
