Hair stuck in pores after laser hair removal

Hi,

I had laser hair removal done on my legs about 2 1/2 weeks ago – it was a Cynosure elite laser on the yag setting, but the hair hasn’t completely fallen out yet and I’m not sure what to do.

I have black coarse hair on my legs and now it looks like there are tons of black hair stuck in my pores under the skin – the hair isn’t growing, and I’m trying to scrub my legs to get them out, but ehy really aren’t coming out all that well. It’s like I have tons of ingrown hair on my legs that aren’t growing.

Do you think they’ll just come out with my next treatment? Should I call and try to get some kind of touch-up?

Also, they told me to come back 8 weeks after my first treatment for my legs, and 6 weeks after my first treatment for my bikini line - does this make sense? Could I just wait longer and get my legs and bikini done at the same time again instead of staggered?

Thanks so much for all of your help – I’m really learning a lot from this forum.

I wrote this yesterday to another poster about pepperspots, which sounds like what you have:

"The first laser treatment is the worst. Those dead hairs get stuck in the follicle and truly do look like pepper --------SPOTS! Another term you might hear them called is tombstones. When you have another treatment, these stuck hairs will probably be burned out of the follicle. You have to be patient with permanent hair reduction - laser, (or permanent hair removal via electrolysis). There are side effects, but the good part is yet to come (if all is being done correctly).

A couple points: never use a loofah sponge to exfoliate because they are a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Use a nylon sponge and wash it well after each use.

Find an exfoliating body wash with AHA. I believe Aveeno has a product like this. Just read a bunch of labels and see what you come up with. The most expensive is not always the best.

One of our posters, ‘Benji boy’ liked loading the area with a moisturizer and letting it stay on overnight. In the morning, he would then exfoliate in the shower. It worked for him.
These ideas may help these pepperspots work their way out faster.

Whatever you do or discover to be the best way to deal with this common problem, let us know what works or doesn’t work for you. The big thing that is needed with pepperspots is patience. It is all normal and will resolve with time."

What skin type are you? What did your laser specialist tell you to do about these stuck hairs? I would think you could go at one time to get both areas treated in that 8-10 week time period, but call and ask them again. Maybe some of our laser people will help out on this one

I had laser treatments on my upper legs and some hairs were stuck in the pores after treatment too. I used a mesh bath sponge to exfoliate in the shower and it did the trick. Just be patient, they will fall out/grow out on their own and you can exfoliate to speed up the process

Thanks so much for your replies & the info. I hadn’t heard the term pepperspots before and I’m sure that’s what I have – I searched for that term here & found a lot more info. Sorry about the repetitious post!

I’m trying to exfoliate with a nylon exfoliating cloth - it doesn’t seem to be working that well yet, but I’ll just keep doing it. I also ordered a 10% AHA body lotion, so I’ll report back if that works.

I did laser treatement and the hair just continued to grow after (its been one week). Is it suppose to stop and get stuck in pore?

Wait at least 8 weeks for bikini and 10-12 between leg treatments.

Hair falls out at week 2-3. On some areas, it can remain as pepperspots for a while before it falls out. Just takes longer.
