Hair Growth Rates

I didn’t see any info about this qusestion in any other topics, so I decided to post a new topic.

Lets say we have Hair 1, which is cut in half with a trimmer, essentially halving its length. (Kind of like a hair cut)

Now, we have Hair 2, which is shaved right down to the skin with a razor, so that it can’t even by seen anymore.

Assuming both hairs are on the same area of the body (such as the leg) will both hairs continue to grow at the same rate, or will Hair 2 initially grow faster?

Cutting makes no difference. All the action takes place below the skin. Hair one may be in the anagen phase (growing) and hair two may b be in the telogen phase (shedding/not growing). We can’t see below the skin to know which is which.

If both hairs are in the same phase of growth, (which your question does NOT specify) then they will grow at the same rate. If one is in anagen and the other is in any other phase of the cycle, then the anagen one will grow faster. Therefore, if the one cut in half is in shedding phase, and the one shaved is in anagen, then the anagen hair will at some point reach the same length and then surpass the length of that hair, but not because either was cut.
