Hair Growth and Cycles

I am thinking about going ahead with electrolysis for quite a few areas, however, i will have to travel around 5 hours to get to a trusted prectitioner. How does electrolysis work in terms of hair cycles and growing back? Does hair that has been shaved before need to be ‘zapped’ numerous amount of times to be killed? Or can they be killed with one zap? Because ive read alot that hair grows in cycles and each hair has to be caught at the different stages in order to be permenant? And that each hair zapped will grow back weaker and weaker until dead… Is this the case?
I am considering having marathon sessions and trying to work out the costs of hours and traveling etc
Thank you in advance

Every electrologist will have their own claims, opinions and facts on this. Many will say hair is gradually killed in anagen stage; very few will guarantee that they can kill hair in any stage from a single treatment.

I have done marathon sessions for 18 months now, spend over $6,700 and I’m still seeing regrowth. I have tried several other electrologists “top trained” and they all told me that I was wasting money all these months by waiting 8 weeks between treatments and not going in 2-3 weeks to catch anagen stage to see results. The process can be a serious emotional and financial drain, so be repaired.

I’d planned to stay off my computer for a week, but broke down and read your post Fenix; and I "feel for you.’ Mostly the confusion. And, I remember my conversations with Art Hinkel (1975) who told me that not a single idea of his (or mine) would ever penetrate the East Coast. And, they haven’t ever … and they never will.

Despite Hinkel’s book describing "killing hairs in telogen’ (1968), and my book … (now sold over 6,000 copies, 1991 publication) that further explained this … my many lectures … before and after photos, etc., the East Coast ideology persists like some sort of religious creed: impermeable belief in the face of objective fact.

The "anagen only’ dogma is based on the "papilla’ as the primary element (never mind stem cells and the billions of papillae in the dermis), and the "sparkler’ technique of using thermolysis. If you use the "sparkler method’ then, I grant you, your theory will coincide with what you see.

I MIGHT consider doing a video on this subject, but I know it will have ZERO impact. None! After a major lecture on the East Coast, I was told, "You are a LIAR!’ So, what do you do with THAT attitude?

People on the East Coast do not take "California ideas’ seriously. They just don’t. After 40 years of this, I’m sort of over my frustration. Unfortunately, with the demise of both Hinkel and Fischer, the East Coast ideology is permeating California … (My clients from the East Coast, however, DO get it. They do!)

I personally would love to see a video on this subject Mike Bono. Please consider doing one.

Absolutely! … Working on animation software at the moment.

Take a look at the TERRIBLE, patheric “joke” made by Sterex. Nearly everything is so off-based it makes me sick. This is the “sparkler” ideology and not even Sterex users do this. Is it any wonder people (operators) get the wrong idea?

This video is like a Muslim that insists that Mohammed flew up to heaven on a winged horse. And then tells me, “Well, YOU prove that it didn’t happen!”

Watch the “spark” at the bottom of the follicle. This doesn’t happen, even with a Sterex needle.

I just watched this disaster again … I have to go and throw up!

Being in western NY, I’m not sure if you’d consider me an East Coaster or not (you know the area, but for those unfamiliar, NYC is a postage stamp on a state that is mostly rust belt manufacturing, rural and agricultural. NY State has more in common with Iowa than it does with NYC)…

That said, when I went to school in NYC, we did talk about the bulge (though the papilla was considered the primary necessity - having a lot of medical knowledge, I considered the stem cells to be just as important). There was no sparkler technique mentioned - we talked about heating patterns, the fact that it’s the radio waves exciting the water molecules in thermolysis, etc). We didn’t have the nonsense about slowly weakening the hair (in fact, we were told that the electrologists that say this often do it to avoid having to discuss hair cycles with their clients). We used Gior’s book there, as well as a curriculum book done by the school (sadly, of my classmates, I think I was the only one that actually read Gior’s book and/or did any further education other than what happened daily at the school).

I’ve gone on to read most of the other major publications, including Hinkel, though I haven’t bought yours yet (there’s only so much time in the day and, honestly, I’d rather give you the money directly for your work). Obviously, I’ve spent a lot of time here on hairtell and elsewhere learning what did and didn’t work for other people. I’m also not as exclusively thermolysis focused as virtually everyone else I know of this way is (I like to use what I feel is the best tool for the particular job and I’m a generalist, doing a very wide range of removal projects, which keeps me interested in a lot of different techniques).

Anyway, your words have at least reached me, IF you want to consider me an East Coaster and I know you and Dee agree on plenty, and isn’t super far away from me. You’re doing better on getting the word out than you probably think. Personally, as someone that has to share the same state with and be politically bullied by NYC, I can’t stand NYC, and thus, I don’t prefer to be considered an East Coaster, but I’ll let it slide for this occasion.

tee hee … WELL, I’m a NEW YORKER too! Born in Western NY … near Buffalo (Williamsville), the heart of the “rust belt.” Moved to California when I was 14-years-old … but I still have an “attitude(?)” Maybe in-born? A “Trump” kinda thing?

Good show on all you are doing …

By the way … here’s a tiny hint about a forthcoming video … (in a bit, not tomorrow). The papilla is eternally illustrated as existing (only) at the base of a terminal hair (in anagen stage) … as if it were some unique structure exclusive to the hair follicle. REALLY?

Hummmm … why do you suppose that the upper portion of the dermis is called the "Papillary Dermis?’ What a shock! At this point, I’m thinking Carl Sagan, "Billions and billions … "

And, why is that significant? Take a look at how hairs originate on the unborn child … and, there’s your answer. (It’s explained in a free download booklet on the AEA website, and mine too "Secrets of your Skin & Hair.’)

So glad I didnt take on this question! Truth be told I’m not interacting much here for a few days anyway , I’m down with the flu but I also knew there were one or two who were better suite to debunking the anogen only theory.

Michael, that video from Sterex is awful! Strange thing is sterex make a fine one piece probe! I’ve used them for some time because of issues getting TES to ship ballet to canada. The assertations made in that video are just plain wrong. In fact , I would put a ballet one piece probe up against a sterex, and not expect one to be better than the other. I’ve never been a fan of 2 piece probes, simply because of the reverse logic of the video, I find accuracy and feel are better with the one piece. Why on earth would sterex put one of their products against the other in such a way? Doesnt make sense to me.

Seana

Yes, I agree Seana … they would have done themselves better by saying nothing! Their video just opens the door to criticism.

I prefer one-piece too, for the reasons you state. But, I can use 2-piece needles too … just a little different approach.
