It just occurred to me that black hair dye would make lighter colored hairs have better contrast with the skin. I’m planning on trying this, and was wondering if anyone has experience with this and can offer guidance or suggestions.

Professional electrologists have used this trick for years. We just use a more temporary coloring. Some people just use makeup colorings, like eyeslash colorings and other semi permanent colorings that promise to cling to the hair, but wash of the skin.
Of course, a high powered vision device coupled with good lighting makes this trick obsolete.
