Hair below the belly button until pubis

 Hi! First of all, Im not a native english speaker, so please apologize if my english is not always correct.

Im a black female with light skin completion and the problem is that I have a large band (about 2 cm) of some dark, very long coarse hairs below the belly button until pubis.

All this started 10 years ago when I unfortunately  decided to shave my belly for it to look better. The contrary has happened! Over the years, I used wax, depilatories, tweezed or plucked etc. It has only get worst and worst. The hairs became longer and longer…

I have decided to use now electrolysis and I would like to know how long it can take pro session to treat this area and if other members have experimented electrolysis there. Did you suffered from bad reactions? scabs? I heared about hyperpigmentation and keloids and that make me unsure…

Thanks for your help and sharing your experience.

Welcome Bluelila.

Electrolysis works for this area or any area. It is assured permanent hair removal. Scabs? there is nothing to fear if you get scabbing. They slough off and all is well. This is common for body work. We are damaging tissue that helps hair grow below the skin. This is how the skin reacts when it is disturbed (inflammation process). Keloids? No. Hyperpig? Maybe. People of color are more prone to have hyperpig, but it is short-lived. If you get hyperpig, it will fade and there are aftercare behaviors on your part that will hasten the healing.

Shaving is never the villian. It gets blamed for hair structure changes, increased hair growth and hair color changes, but has no effect on your hair problem getting worse. It is an action that takes place ABOVE the skin. Tweezing, depilatories, waxing DO mess with the hair structure BELOW the skin and is responsible for hair getting worse than previously observed. So don’t do anything that disturbs the ā€œrootā€. Hair needs a good blood supply and hormones and anything that irritates or messes with the root, can be bad news for future hair growth. Without these ā€œfertilizersā€, blood and hormones, hair will cease to grow.

With a skilled professional electrologist that is adept at using microflash or picoflash thermolysis, all the hair can be cleared in one session, maybe an hour? Blend electrolysis would be good as well, but slower and you may need 2-3 sessions to get a first full clearance. After the area is cleared, you need to heal and then go back in every 2-3 weeks to start maintaining the area until there are no more hair growth cycles to get through. You are going to have to bear with this for 9-12 months. If it is done incorrectly, it will be longer. You need to get several consultations and sample as many electrologists as possible. The ones that can give you a tolerable treatment with decent speed and as little skin reaction as possible, is the one you want to stay close to for the required period of time to get through those pesky hair growth cycles.

Electrolysis works. It is permanent. You must be patient for at least a year of properly scheduled appointments. This area can be ouchy because it is in the center of your body, so you may want to investigate Lidocaine options and numb the area for 1-2 hours before your appointment. Confer with your doctor first and make sure that lidocaine cream 5% will be okay for you to use.
