Had a consultation with Coolglide XEO IPL and Yag

Hi again. I went to a consultation yesterday with a lady that has a Coolglide XEO. It’s a platform that has both a 1064 NdYag and a Prowave IPL on it. She said I’m a Fitzpatrick 3 (odd since I’m hispanic and Italian with brown skin). She thinks the Prowave IPL works best in most areas with a few exceptions that she named for me. She intends to use the IPL first and do clean up with the Yag. I want my legs and full privates treated. I have black, dense hair. I think it’s coarse. She said it’s fine but I don’t know how she could tell since I was shaved. Her prices are very good and her office seems professional. She’s been in the LHR business for 5 years and she claims that is the longest in the region.

She did a test patch on my right ankle with the 1064 yag with a 7 mm spot size at two different settings. She did one spot at 45 J and another spot at 50 J. I asked about pulse and she said it was program B. She asked me to tell her on a scale of 1-10 how painful it was and I thought it was about a 5-6.

She also did a test spot on my left ankle using the Prowave IPL at a setting of B-20. I don’t know what that means. On a scale from 1-10 I thought the pain was a 6 or 7.

Can anyone comment on these settings?
Is anyone familiar with the Prowave? I found one member that has used it and I sent him a PM already.

TIA!

Prowave is one of the better IPLs. However, 7mm spot size is VERY small. Are you sure that’s what it was? I would be hesitant at any spot size under 9mm. 12mm and up would be best if it’s adjustable.

It was pretty tiny. She has a 7 and 10mm spot size but for some reason she favors the 7mm spot size. We didn’t discuss that though.

What do you think of the settings lagirl?

I think the 7mm spot size is way too small, especially for your light skin type. You should be able to handle those joules at 10mm with no problems and even higher on the Yag. With your skin type, you also want to keep the pulse under 20ms. I don’t know what that setting on this machine means, so I would ask what ms number it represents.

I’m not familiar with IPL settings, so I can’t help you there. But do see how shedding goes in the next 3 weeks. Try to avoid shaving the area so you can judge better.
