Had 6 sessions and still have hair growth on legs

I have had a lot of hair growth on my legs and decided to have lhr at age 62, the cost was 2000 and they did 2 full and 4 spot removals starting last july. To my dismay a good amount of hair is back and when I went back to the center to have another touch up done, they informed me there will be an additional charge of 400 for this clean-up.
I can not afford this and need to know if anyone went to shaving or depilitories after unsatisfactory results but do not want to undo the good parts by waxing.
Help.
Sandy

If you’ve had four full treaments, I wouldn’t expect you would have a complete removal.

What skin/hair type do you have?

What kind of laser or IPL was used? Do you know what the settings were?

Percentage-wise, how much hair do you think has been removed?

I believe that most people would need a minimum of six treatments to get an substantial reduction on their legs. I am sure there are those who are more experienced and knowledgeable on this subject that would have a better answer for this issue.

yes, 6 treatments is minimum to have a substantial reduction. if you want almost total removal, you need to have at least 8 sessions, possibly a few more. And even then, if you want 100%, you need to finish with electrolysis. Laser can only target hair with enough pigment. Once they get too fine and sparse, you need to finish with electrolysis.

also, at 62, what color is your hair? BRR also asks great questions. what laser is used? what is your skin and hair type?

Thank you for you reply to my post. I do not know what type of laser was used but I will try to find out. I am very light skin with dark coarse hair on my legs. I am going to assume that maybe 70% is gone but there seems to be new growth has been and is coming out at times. I want to get rid of the remaining hair but can not afford any more laser treatments that is why I posted to find out method I should use to remove the hair left on my legs.

if you don’t want to spend money on either laser or electrolysis, you should shave. I wouldn’t recommend waxing as that will probably make hair darker and thicker again.

I think it was the machine was cool lase. Not 100% sure, does it make a difference? This was run thru my ent doctors office, he also does laser work. He evaluated my legs with 2 month growth on them and said it would work on me. Told me to shave the day of my treatment so there was no hair on my legs for the tech to see. I am in a quandry, I still use this ent doctor and am having him do surgery for an ent problem.

My dilema is: will either shaving or a depilitory restart the growth where I had sucess with cool-lase?

Shaving has NO effect at all on the growth of hair. Shaving merely chops off the top portion of a hair and the lower portion, where the root is, is totatlly unaffected.

yes, the laser type makes a difference. there are more powerful machines suitable to certain skin types etc and settings used matter as well. if you want to shave, you can do it all you want. it won’t affect the hair in any way. only removing hair with the root will, so waxing etc.

Thanks for your response, I will choose the shaving. I am so disapointed that it was not resolved in 6 sessions. Using a forum is new to me so I hope I am responding correctly. If I could afford it, do you think more sessions would work, because I see more hairs surfacing?
Thanks.

to Lagirl,

it’s hard to tell you what was not done properly without knowing the laser machine, settings used, your skin and hair type etc. cool lase is not a name for any lhr machine. if you can call that place and find these things out we’d be able to help more. also, did you experience shedding? if your hair is still dark and somewhat coarse, yes, you will should see better results with a proper machine and experienced tech. i can’t emphasize enough how important those 2 things are.

I’m sure you are right about the machine and the tech. The machine was problematic during a few sessions and needed to be reset or chg something in it. I did speak to the doctor about more sessions at no charge because of this but to no avail. Since I am having some regrowth at this time I will resort to shaving, I think that this was a mistake for someonle like me (very hairy legs with dark coarse hair) to expect perminadent results. I did have the first treatment last june and 5 additional ones thru the beginning of december. In the winter it started sprouting and I was cutting the long ones with scissors. We were away for the winter and never sat in the sun without 35 bun block. Thanks for you posting.
