Had 2 test patches, trying to compare results

Hello!

I had 2 test patches done on my stomach by 2 different laser folks. My skin is pale with very dark, coarse hair. The first place told me that some hair would shed immediately after my test patch. I hadn’t heard of this before, I was under the impression that it would take weeks to shed. At any rate, she was right, I had about 20 hairs rise to the surface right after she treated me. She wiped them away with a damp cloth, & I only had minor redness that night. More hairs shed within the next few weeks.

The second test patch I had done on the stomach did not have immediate shedding after the treatment. I asked the laser tech about this & she suggested maybe the other laser place used a machine that had suction on it… although I don’t think it did. This second test patch was also a tad red, but there were also some minor bumps. They went away within a few days, so it wasn’t a big deal.

I’m wondering which treatment may have be more beneficial? The second place told me that machines with suction that pull hairs out aren’t better, but like I said, I don’t think the first place used suction. Can anyone offer any insight on this?

Thanks!

This isn’t abnormal. Some hair gets released or burned off right away.

Can’t really help here. We need details on the machine used and settings to give you our opinion. Whether the hair sheds is only one indicator, and it’s irrelevant whether the hair sheds immediately or later.

Thanks for your reply! Both used an Alexandrite, but I’m not sure what the settings were! Glad to know that’s it’s not relevant if the shedding is right away or not! I just wasn’t expecting so much to shed right away & thought it was odd that the second patch didn’t have any (there was shedding a few weeks later tho). I wonder if the second woman used lower settings than the first?? I should’ve asked for the settings :frowning:

You can call and ask! Make sure to ask for the joules, spot size, and pulse width.
