Guess who's coming to dinner?

If you’ve never seen the movie, “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” it’s high time you did.

Several friends have suggested I not broach the TG subject at all; and that’s good advice on some level. Still, the TG community is a major part of electrology and I’m more interested in furthering understanding based on reality, rather than just making “feel good” statements. Besides, what’s wrong with having your unexamined beliefs challenged?

When I worked with Dr. P, we were scrubbing for a facial surgery on one of my TG clients. I expressed some anxiety about the person and the case in general. Dr. P, in his typical “liberal PC” manner said, “Oh Mike, stop being so narrow-minded, just accept everyone.”

I asked Dr. P if he would do the following: attend a medical conference of his peers and bring “Sofia” with him as his personal guest: not as a patient, but as his friend/guest. He said, “Oh GOD NO!”

And, that’s the difference …

You see, I would and I DO!

I suppose I will just “shut the hell up” on this important subject’ but you will be missing out on a lot. Dr. Chapple (my guy) was directly involved in the Stanford project. I stayed with Dr. Lamaker (Holland) and went through many experiences at the Dijsselhof and was there when the State medical decisions changed on this all. I also spent 6-weeks touring Europe with my friend “Wendy” who is also TG.

But of course, in our “instant decision” cell-phone and social media society … where our attention span is (actually) LESS than Goldfish … sure, go ahead, make snap decisions, never think through your own feelings and prejudices and continue blithely on.

Mike, having seen your postings from 2011 to the present, you have always advocated for those that have the hardest road to travel in life. You are one of the biggest social justice guys I know, with a huge heart that fears not to protect the rights and freedom of others. If you ever run dry as an electrologist, you can always go into politics.
