group buys for laser hair removal

I am so grateful for all the awesome group website deals that are making laser affordable. It’s changing my life at a 10th of the cost. If you haven’t been keeping an eye on group deals in your city, I highly recommend it. I have seen treatments that workout to less than 20 dollars a session for major body parts.

HOWever, one of my jumbo pet peeves is that the group deal companies are not good at stating specifics about the laser used. And worse, the laser hair removal companies you’re buying access to often don’t state what the laser system is on their own website. That is really unprofessional to me. It sometimes takes up to 4 or 5 ppl requesting this information on the group buy page to finally get an answer… such a waste of time.

Some of my tips:
-Always find out what laser/ipl the company uses
-Always find out if tax is included in the price and if the tax is on the sale price or “normal price” (i.e. tax on 30 dollars or 300)
-Always find out when the voucher expires (3 months isn’t a great time frame to get six leg treatments)
-Look at the group deal website’s expiry policy - what happens to your deal voucher when the deal expires? Is your voucher now at least worth face value towards normal prices, or is it now worth 0 dollars?
-Look at the group deal website’s refund policy; if you aren’t a candidate for the service after consultation, can you get money back? If the service provider sucks, can you get money back?
-Look at yelp, google, etc. and still try to seek reviews on the service provider, even if it looks like the bargain of the century

That said, even for a not-so-great machine, some of these prices are lower than waxing… it is just amazing to me.

One last bit of advice: rather than getting a million daily emails from each individual group buy site every morning, try to find a website or a company that will send an email with all the deals in your city so you can do a quick scan and not miss deals.

I completely agree. I’ve gone on those forums and asked the questions myself. Most people don’t do enough research to even know that there are various machines available, so they don’t know the right questions to ask. And clinics take advantage of it. In their view, the less the customer knows and questions them, the fewer lawsuits and arguments.

Great advice, I always check for them too to see. I find they’re usually around $89-99 for 4 to 6 small areas like underarms etc. Some places let you combine them for multiple areas which is nice.

I got a really amazing deal with my current clinic that uses Apogee MPX. It was $89 for I think 4 sessions (which I haven’t used yet). Anyway to do full legs the package of 6 is normally $2000. They had a promo if you buy one full package, you get the second at 50% off. The amazing thing was when I asked about legs pricing, she told me I can do legs 50% off because my group buy thing counted as a package, even though it was only $89! So now I have 6 sessions of legs for $1000 total or $166 per session with the 18mm alexandrite MPX.

Just quick edit, as mentioned you have to watch, a LOT are IPL like I’d say 80% of them at least in Toronto, and the rest are mostly Soprano XL.

What site do you use that aggregates all group deals? I use Yipit because I did a testing project for them (how I found out about it), but I don’t know of others.

We have a gazillion deals in NYC every week. It’s getting kind of crazy. I’m a foodie and go to a lot of restaurants, and some of these things have really saved me a ton on great places in NYC.

Edokid, it’s true… so many deals are for IPL. I guess it would be better and cheaper than waxing, but I like to hold out for the same price on a real laser. It also bugs me that so many of the small parts you can choose to laser in the deals are ones where you’re most likely to STIMULATE hair.

LAgirl, I get emails from dealradar.com. It’s not allllll of them, but good enough! They cover the US and Canada and more. I can’t imagine how many deals are in NYC!

Canadians can also try smartcanucks on the web and just click on the daily deals tab.

Thanks for the yipit tip. I didn’t know that one!

Yeah thanks for the tip I didn’t know about Yipit, first one that came up for me was $99 for 6 Laser Hair Removal sessions haha, no mention of the laser just “Laser with 20 degrees cooling head” whatever that’s supposed to mean!

Oh man just found a real douzy here! $79 for 6 hair removal sessions on Soprano XL, PLUS includes 3 TANNING sessions to “complete the look”! The best part, the coupon expires 6 months from date of issue! So not only do you have to do 6 sessions within 6 months, they actually want you to go tanning at the same time.

The 6 month thing is a total joke otherwise it’s not too bad as you can buy multiple coupons. 2 of them does 6 forearm sessions so $160 for 6 forearms is pretty good even if it is on Soprano, except it would take like 2 years to properly use 6 sessions.

On a side note, the deal right below it is $19 for $45 worth of electrolysis at a clinic I was going to call for a consultation next week anyway so that’s not bad!

Let me know how that electrolysis consult goes… I have friends in that part of the country. Toronto definitely seems to get some great laser deals itself! There are places here where it is $55+ just to get a brazilian wax, and with some of these deals it works out to less than 20 bucks a session for the same area with laser.

I think we must be laser obsessed here, there has to be at least 3 a week on these deals sites. I just find the one funny come get lasered and then tan when you’re done lolol. I emailed them saying it’s a scam!

Did Alma go and give out free Soprano XL’s or something? There’s 2 new team buy groupon type things listed today also with Soprano XL. So far I count 6+ places in Toronto that have Soprano now. It seems like everyone has it!!!

That’s probably true. I also think that there are way too many clinics nowdays and thus a lot of competition.

I want to get more info on this one but at dealticker.com for I think it’s showing Mississauga, there’s a clinic with Soprano XL but they’re offering $39 for 3 laser sessions on small areas like hands feet chin etc or $49 for ANY large area like full legs. It says you can buy unlimited of them as well, so if you buy 3 of them for $150 then that would be 9 sessions on full legs. Sounds too good to be true, going to email them to find out but Soprano or not at that price you don’t really have much to lose…
(I’ve never been to this place and I’m not endorsing it, it’s just a really good price so wanted to share with everyone)

that is pretty darn amazing. i cannot believe the pricing coming out of these group deals. it is changing the thousands of dollars i had budgeted for this issue to hundreds.

one more point for all my group deal buddies out there:
it can’t hurt to google your local health authority’s website and see if they do pse (personal health establishments) inspections, in the same way they do restaurant inspections. if your potential place is constantly being hit with unsatisfactory evaluations, you might want to consider going somewhere else or politely questioning the service provider on those aspects (rather than saying “i know you got in trouble for disinfection” you could say “can you let me know what your disinfection practices are?”. (note: i wouldn’t fret so much about a one-time issue that seems to have been constantly corrected in multiple follow-up reports. mistakes happen.) remember your health is important! don’t be paranoid, but be safe.

for example, from what i’ve been reading, they should be cleaning the laser tips, changing the towels/paper on the chair, using gloves, and giving you proper eyewear made to filter the specific laser beam. there shouldn’t be reflective surfaces in the room (sparkly jewellery, mirrors, exposed window glass (blinds closed is fine) etc.) that can redirect the beam. these requirements may vary in region to region, but be aware that requirements exist. avoid shady places that give the impression of compromising their customers’ health by taking stupid risks to save money - even if it’s in relation to their other services offered rather than the laser services.

also on that note, google the better business bureau and search your potential company to make sure they don’t have a crap track record of resolving complaints. you’re forking over lots of cash whether great group deal or regular price.

happy deal hunting!

hey edokid,

i noticed there is a lightsheer deal in toronto on fabfind today. not the best bargain ever in group deal history, but a legit laser and options to get full back or full legs for 6 sessions at $276 - reasonable and fair!! dont know much about the company, but sweet deal.
