Good News for Body Shavers!

The Philips Bodygroom will be available in the US in April:

Bodygroom Announcement

For more information check out the Bodygroom home page. .

This is probably a response to Remingtons introduction of the BHT 2000 Body Hair Trimmer in the US. It looks like the Bodygroom will have a better trimmer than the Remington. I like the shaving attachment of the Remington, but the trimmer has extremely sharp edges on the trimmer, making it too dangerous for use on private parts.

Thanks for the update! I’ve been waiting for this to hit the States ever since seeing those great UK ads a year ago or so. And using kiwis is, as the British say, “brilliant!”

Thanks to electrolysis, my kiwis don’t need trimming, but the rest of my body will appreciate the new device, I’m sure. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I hope to get laser and electrolysis there someday. But I have other places to get pemanently clear first. I haven’t shaved my back for two weeks and it doesn’t look all that bad. I can feel the hair that’s there and it’s itchy and I will notice it in the summe. My practitioner said she can finish my back and shoulders with electrolysis. I think the remaining hair is too fine for a laser to target. She said there is less hair on my back than on my armpits when I started. My armpits and chest are basically hairless!

The Bodygroom looks like it should work pretty good. The head is placed at an angle so it should be easy to use

Hi RJC and Patrick

Has the new Bodygroomer by Philips appeared in US shops yet? If so, has anyone bought one and what do you think of it so far? How does it compare to Remington’s unit?

Regards,

smoothlover

I got one earlier this week. The Norelco website said they were available at Target. I went to Target and they only had one left, so I bought it. Looks like it’s going to be popular, and more guys are body shaving than we thought. I was at the same Target a week earlier and they didn’t have any at all.

I like it. It does a very good job. It shaves reasonably close and can be used anywhere without nicking the skin. It has the best trimmer I have ever seen on a shaver! The foil does a pretty good job too.

As far as comaring it to the Remington, the trimmer on the Norelco is a lot better. I use it without any trimmer guards. With the Remington, the trimmer blades are pointy and have wide gaps, so they can pinch and cut the skin. For shaving in the pubic area you need to use the blade guard. But it does do a nice job with the blade guard. I like the foil on the Remington better, but the foil is not as big as on the Norelco, so shaving takes a little bit longer. The Remington is a lot quieter than the Norelco, just the opposite of the face shavers. The Norelco rotary face shavers are the quietest around, while the Remingtons are the noisiest.

The Norelco is more expensive than the Remington, but it has a 60 day trial period.

Overall, based on my first impressions, I like the Norelco better. The foil is larger so it can cover more area, and the trimmer is far better than on the Remington. Plus the Norelco can be used to shave anywhere below the neck, and it can be used safely without the trimmer guard. The Remington is still very good though, and some may prefer it.

Try one, if you don’t like it return it and try the other. The factory will take it back so the stores should not refuse a refund. They do not resell returned shavers. Besides, you would be able to tell by the opened blister pack.

My first post!

I just ordered one from here: Philips Norelco BG2020 Men’s Bodygroom

This is exactly what I have been looking for and would not have not known about it unless I hadn’t found this forum- thanks.

Check out the new Bodygroom website

Some parts of it are kind of dumb, but it gives details about the features, etc.

Is this really a viable option. It still seems that while more expensive, waxing is a better alternative for smoother skin - and laser, if affordable is a better solution.

Is Norelco barking up the wrong tree? Is there really a big market for this?

I think it’s a viable option, since I will use it mostly for keeping my leg and chest hair trimmed to about 1/4"- the Norelco BodyGroom is about twice the width of my current beard trimmer I use for this and will work much better I hope- haven’t got mine yet. When I get it and use it for trimming I will post my impressions.

The Bodygroom is geared toward people that either: 1) cant afford waxing, laser or electrolysis 2)leery of laser or electrolysis for some reason, or 3)people that don’t have much hair. Maybe someone wants to try hairlessness before the go with a permanent option.

#3 would apply to me. With the exception of a few stragglers that pop up from time to time, my chest is hairless. My armpits are almost hairless. My legs have much less hair on them than they used to, at least 609 to 70 percent less. A few passes with the Bodygroom and I’m done.

I agree that laser or electrolysis is the best solution. Waxing is an option but if you are considering laser or electro, it is counterproductive.

For some, the Bodygroom is the best or only option.

I guess we’ll find out if men’s body grooming is the real deal (or Norelco will). I still think it’s still up in the air - but that products like this may make men feel more comfortable with it.

To me, the one issue with shaving - is that the fact that one shaves becomes obvious. With waxing, it can just look natural for a while and then it grows back thinner.

With laser, it also creates less stubble.

I understand your point, but if a man has no hair on his legs, I think most people will assume he shaves them.

Shaving is not the best solution if one is really hairy as there will be a lot of stubble. The only way to reduce the stubble as much as possible would be to shave every day with a good razor like the Fusion.

Laser is the best solution I agree. But sometimes shaving is the only option.

I think hair removal for men is becoming more common and more acceptable, and I don’t see anything stopping that trend. There is no need to keep the hair if you don’t want it.

I tried it and it did NOT work very well at all. I think this is a contraption that they are selling cheap so they can get people to buy it…

I used it wet - and it did not work well.

Did it not shave close enough? Did it cause irritation?

Did you think it was loud? I did. But I weigh the good with the bad and I think there is more good than bad about it.

Tell us more what you didn’t like about it. Shaving is an individual thing and no product is going to work well for everyone. There were some reviewers on Amazon.com that would agree with you BTW.

It won’t shave as close as a face shaver. I think the foil is thicker. I have had a lot of laser and electrolysis, and a lot of my body has little or no hair. So a wide variety of shavers will give OK results, for example on the legs and back.

Doesn’t shave close enough. They market it as you be really smooth - and it doesn’t come close… It leaves a lot of stubble.

Not as close as a razor? lol I just ordered it, and its on its way to me…if I had known that it wouldnt give me a shave as close as a face electric razor, I wouldnt have ordered it. Oh well, I will give it a try once it gets here.

I can understand that. If you are used to shaving with a good blade, the Bodygroom will not be as close.

If I had not had my leg hair removed/reduced with laser, it may not have been close enough for me either.

Got mine yesterday and love it! I used it to trim my leg, arm and chest hair with the #2 attachment and it worked fantastic- much faster and better job because of the shape of it than my beard trimmer I used to use for this.

I used it to completely shave my back and shoulders- I only have a few hairs here and there on my back- and it worked great. I feel it’s close enough of a shave for me, considering I was just using a trimmer without any attachments for my back before.

Overall, I’m very happy with it. It’s exactly what I was looking for and it works well.

Thought I’d add that I used the BodyGroom to shave my butt for the first time 3 days ago and have done it daily. I have no red bumps or irritation like I’ve had with every other method of shaving my butt in the past (see this thread). It shaves close enough for me although it may not for others.
