Going for treatment on in a few days...

Hello all,

I am going for a chest hair removal treatment in a few days and I have a few questions.

The laser that I will be receiving treatment from is the alexandrite GentleLASE Plus class VI laser. I am planing on having three treatments done. I am a skin type III and I have fairly coarse black hair. Also, I have a decent pain threshold.

What is a good setting to use on my first treatment?

How long should I go between each treatment?

Thanks alot, hope to hear from someone soon!

Hi, I don’t know what the difference is between GentleLASE and GentleLASE Plus, but I will give you my opinion for the GentleLASE in general:

The spot size is either 15 or 18mm (18mm is better for treating deeper hairs and getting fewer missed spots). The joules should be as high as you can handle without burning (it will hurt like a you-know-what, but as long as you aren’t getting burned you should go as high as you can). I would say 16J on 18mm spot size is a good starting place, but for type III skin and a first treatment, they may insist on 14J. I get my treatments done at 20J and of course this is ideal but they may want to “work up to it”.

This is a good machine. We can’t advise on settings like this since skin types are approximate, but we can tell you that you shouldn’t be treated on anything under 14-16J on the 18mm spot size. Anything under that probably won’t result in permanent removal.

You should also expect all treated hair to shed within 3 weeks. Whatever doesn’t should be touched up at 3 weeks, for free usually. Overlapping is important to avoid patchiness.

Treatments should be spaced 8-12 weeks apart. Don’t come in if you don’t have enough to treat and don’t pay for a touchup by coming in too early.
