Getting razor burn again...

For the past year I have been getting the hair on the right side of my neck removed through electrolysis because of the constant irritation I get from shaving the area. This one area in particular, which I have had the hairs removed from twice, is starting to grow back very tiny hairs again and I am getting a nasty razor burn when I shave. How can I be getting razor burns if the hairs are barely visible when I shave? Could it be something else other than the tiny hairs that are causing these burns or do I have to go back to my electrologist and get these hairs removed? Thanks for any help that can be given.

I would guess/assume that your razor burn problem won’t disapear until the hair is totally gone. It could be psuedofolliculitus. My brother uses PFB on his beard area (I do too, but elsewhere)and it cuts down on the irritation. Or, you could get it all removed.

can you expand on your treatments too? why are you shaving if you’re removing the hair with electrolysis? how much have you removed in a year?

what are you using to shave? shaving gel, soaking?, what type of razor?

You said you had the hair removed twice. Does that mean you have not been having regular treatments? Do you just want to remove ingrown hairs and problem hairs, or do you want full removal in these areas?

Many people who have problems with ingrowns, get all the hair in that area removed over 9 to 18 months, and put all their worries to rest. If you just want ingrown hairs removed, you would just go in on a regular basis, perhaps once a month, and have any ingrown hairs treated until you have no ingrown hairs left.

I have had between 15-20 half hour and one hour sessions done on my neck in the past year and I still shave the area because not all the hairs are removed and I dont plan on removing all of them except the ones that give me trouble when I shave. I use a shave gel and mach3 turbo to shave along with some aftershave lotion.

I had the hair removed twice in certain areas because it still grew back after the first treatment and I am just removing problem hairs which is almost the whole right side of my neck. There are days and sometimes weeks where I will have good shaves but when I start getting irritation in certain follicles I make sure to call my electrologist and set up an appointment so they can be removed.

The hairs you are “removing twice” are not the same hairs. At any point, only a third or so of the hairs you have are actively growing. When you remove them, what you see pop up next are different hairs, which were dormant before. That’s why you need 9-12 months of treatment on any one area, i.e. so that you can kill the hairs you want gone from every growth phase.

So if I need to remove those hairs again than I will just schedule an appointment with my electrologist and hope that she can get rid of them for good. I just hope that it is not something else causing these burns.

you have to schedule regular appts over the course of 12 months or so to get rid of all the hairs in an area. you have to go in as soon as you see new hair pop up in the area.
