Is someone able to explain the differences between using 18mm/20J and 15mm/30J on the Gentlelase machine. Or would they give similar results? Is one preferred for Type3 skin?

What spot size the clinic chooses to use depends on the area being treated, coarseness of the hair, depth of the hair, etc. You should find a clinic who can make the decision themselves because they’re experienced. Plus, those are max settings on each spot size. You won’t necessarily be treated at the max setting.

I checked around some clinics. Here is a summary of what I found, many refuse to use the 18mm/20J for the first session(prefer the 18mm/18J) - even AFTER a test spot - others were open to the idea. Although most seem to offer the 18mm/14J for the first treatment. Which based on what I read here is fairly useless.
Interestingly, all the operators I contacted, had a much greater preference for the 18mm spot size when using the Gentlelase.
14j/18mm is a good setting to start for most. It’s not useless. I wouldn’t be treated at anything below that, but that one and above is fine. And yes, larger spot size is better.
