GentleLASE - how dark is too dark?? Skin types?!

I’ve been wanting to do laser on my bikini and upper legs using the GentleLASE machine. However, I’ve been doing some intense tanning over the summer and built up a tan, which shows up quite darkish compared to my very white pubic area. I know a little about the skin types but always got confused on whether they mean your skin type overall, tan or no tan, or is it dependent on what color your skin is at this very moment? I think my skin was rated II a couple years ago when I never sun tanned but since I became more confident with my body and sun tanning I think I’m a III as I do tan nicely when I work at it and even during winter I notice throughout these couple years my skin never quite goes back to being that real white color, almost as if I acquired a permanent skin stain of color that stays even without sunning (if you know what I mean?).

So does this mean my very white pubic area and tan thighs both count as a type III and mean they can be treated at the same time with the laser this week? When I went to the clinic the woman said my skin should be more than fine but I don’t know how much I trust her since I just met her once.

Can someone also post pictures of skin types and their tans and what intensity of tan can be treated with the GentleLASE and when the tan is too tan?

Skin type is your type when you’re not tanned. If you’re tanned, settings would need to be decreased in order to avoid burning you. Laser is attracted to pigment - it can’t tell whether it’s recent or your usual.

It’s really impossible to judge from photos. If you’re wondering whether high enough settings on GentleLASE will burn you, the only way to tell is to test the skin at those settings. Though an experienced tech should be able to judge by the color of your skin (current color of whatever area you’re looking to treat).
