gentle yag settings?

what is a good setting on gentle yag? at what setting will this laser give permanent reduction?

Settings depend on your skin type. Unlike on GentleLASE, this machine has adjustable pulse. So there are 3 variables that need to be adjusted. You should strive for high joules, large spot size, and low pulse. So whatever the best combination of all those your skin can handle safely is what should be used. On this machine, largest spot size is 18mm, highest joules on 18mm is 30J, and lowest pulse is 3ms.

I’ve had six treatemts with laserscope on my legs with the highest setting, im wondering if gentleyag will be a better choice for me, and actually give me results. So far I see no hair reduction on my legs . I would like to post a picture of my leg on here. Im still not sure what my skin type is, and if the hair is coarse or not. please give me options, what is the best way to get rid of this hair… its really frustrating, because I’ve already spent about $2000 on treatments for my legs. The hair did shed after each treatment but it always came back, and I dont see any significant hair reduction!!

pics.
warning really gross. Please zoom in.

What is your ethnic makeup?

mediterranean. Im going in for a consultatiotion today. Im interested to know if they can treat the back of my neck, I can post pics of that area as well.

Your skin looks like a type IV or so. Laserscope Lyra Yag is not a very good machine. The spot size is tiny. So it’s not surprising you’re not getting results. Also, I would say your hair is medium coarseness, so I wouldn’t expect 100% reduction. However, you can get a lot of that hair removed with a good machine and good settings. I would definitely try GentleYAG. See how high of settings you can handle based on the parameters I provided above. Get a test spot when you go in for your consultation if you can.

Reading about GentlYag gives me some hope. Hopefully it will give me good results! I always thought my treatments with laserscope were going to be effective, since the settings were pretty high and the treatments were really painful!! I thought with 6 treatments I would be 60% to 70% hair free on my , or at least thats what I was hoping for.

The hair that’s a few inches below your bikini line should definitely get good results. The rest is average coarseness or somewhat fine, so I have modest expectations for that hair.

Unfortunately upper legs is a stubborn area. From my experience it reacts similar to upper arms or back. If you are aiming a complete bald look, I assume you do because you are a female, then laser won’t do it for you.

Looking at your pictures, I see you don’t have that many coarse hairs, so they should not be a time consuming case for electrolysis. If I were you, I would first try electrolysis to get rid of the coarse ones. Then if there are other finer ones left then I would think something else, other than laser. I don’t say laser won’t give you any reduction. I say, the reduction would be minimal and wouldn’t worth it.

By the way, neck is a risky area for laser. It may trigger hair growth at adjacent zones. This was what I experienced. Just wanted to warn you.

thanks for the replies. I went to my consultation today, and these are the setting that will be used spot size 12mm, 50 cm joules, pulse 508, and wave legth 1064 nm. are these effective?? I went in for the back of my neck, and legs today. She said the neck has coarse hair, and will work however she wont treat the finer ones thats abit lower on the back of my neck. She said the hair on my legs are coarse enough to treat…Now Im having second thoughts about getting these areas lasered. should I ago with electrolysis? these areas are really large, im getting my stomach, and chest treated with electrolysis right now. im so confused!!!

12mm, 50 cm joules, pulse 508, and wave legth 1064 nm

I don’t understand why they use 12 mm spot size. A bigger one should be more convenient and give better results.

pulse 508?? I have no idea what that means. Pulse duration?

I think 50 J/cm2 on 12 mm is a decent one.

yeah, she wrote down these settings for me. Vklepil why is the hair on the back of the neck risky to treat? these are really coarse hair that are too short for a ponytail . the fall out and give an appearance of very hairy back! lol. I wont do laser if it will induce growth on other areas. NO thanks I’m already hairy, and I guess will be forever…

Pulse can’t be 508. I’m thinking it’s probably 50ms.

I’m also not sure why they’re using 12mm. I would ask to use a 15mm or 18mm spot size instead and also decrease the pulse if possible. They may need to test around to see what you can handle safely.

Sorry, I didn’t want to discourage you. On the sides of neck, I only lasered just below the hairline and after a month or so the area much below and on the side, which had fine hairs before, grew coarse hair. So, next time I lasered the induced part too, and now I got back to where i started.

There are also other people reporting this behaviour. So, even it may be small there is some risk.

I feel for you as I think I will forever be hairy too.

one of you is male, the other is female. it makes a difference.

in terms of inducing growth, it’s best to avoid ANY fine hair on any area. there is little chance that it lasering it will do anything, so why risk it?
