Funny Electrolysis Update

Today I had electrolysis on my upper lip for the first time in almost a decade. Electrolysis fixed my (severe) unwanted facial hair problem a long time ago, with no regrowth, but like a lot of women as I have gotten a tiny bit older I noticed a few of my vellus hairs on my lip/face starting to get longer and, though not coarse, a little more pigmented. I continue to have electrolysis treatments on other areas (though not by the person who did my face) and today asked her to zap any little strays she saw on the lip and chin area. Remembering how uncomfortable it had been around the lip area when I was first having treatment I was expecting a lot of gritting of teeth and so on, but to my immense surprise I had very little sensation or discomfort, even right up under the nose and along the lip line (the only places I ever teared up during my facial treatments.) I don’t know if the machines are better or what, but she also told me she is very careful about insertions and I guess it pays off. We spent about 45 minutes total on my lip and sideburn area as I apparently had a lot of little lightly pigmented hairs that I was unaware of, but we got a total clearance and I will probably have a touch-up in six weeks or so, tacked on to another session.

Here is the funny bit, to me anyway. I had wanted to start my bikini line, and since I thought the lip was going to be ouchy I was looking forward to having work done on a less sensitive area. The lip proved to be pretty much painless, however, but to my surprise the bikini line was really quite uncomfortable to the extent that I once about came off the table. There was also a lot of redness right away and almost welts where the follicles had been treated. I know it wasn’t bad technique or something because I’ve used this same operator for a while and she does a great job, so I guess either the bikini area is more sensitive than I thought for everybody OR I am just extra delicate there. Regardless, even the small area we cleared there looks great now and I look forward to having my whole bikini line done so I won’t have to worry about shaving. If it proves to be too uncomfortable I can always use LMX 5%, which I have very rarely ever needed for facial or other areas.

Some attempt at explaining this : Maybe she needed less energy to clean up the lip and facial hair on the sides and that is why it wasn’t so ouchy??

Bikini area does hurt for most people. Most people do better with high intensity low timing thermolysis and some like blend. Either way, a numbing agent can take the edge off. Those bikini hairs are usually deep and coarse and probably have a great number of nerve bundles wrapping around the bottom of the follicle. It is a tough area to treat, especially for our dear trans women who decide to do confirmation surgery, but somehow they get through it.

I think you are right and they must have been deep and coarse. My lip hairs were little peach fuzz almost, but of course the bikini line is much coarser. Even so I am looking forward to getting it cleared.
