Full Bikini

First off, I’d like to thank Andrea and everyone who posts on this site for such an informative forum. As someone considering electrolysis, I’ve found a wealth of information on this site, for which I’m very grateful.

I am considering having electrolysis done on my underarms and bikini line - full Brazilian - and was wondering if anyone could provide a ballpark figure on how many hours I should expect for flash thermolysis for a full Brazilian? I know that varies based on the individual and the practitioner’s skill, but what would be a consertive or average timeframe? For example, using the search feature, I found that a typical timeframe for underarms is 9-12 hours - but I couldn’t find similar info for the bikini area. I have horrible shaving irritation no matter what I try (tendskin, etc.) which is why I’m looking into permanent hair removal. For budgeting purposes, I’d like to have a rough idea of what I should expect.

Incidentally, as a natural blonde <blush>, I’m not a good candidate for laser.

Thanks in advance for your help!

It depends on how many individual hairs you have to remove, which is different for everybody, so it’s hard to provide an estimate. The best thing you can do is estimate how many hairs you see currently. Then assume the rate of removal will be about 6-8 hairs per minute. Then assume that each hair will need to be treated 1-3 times. Then assume that you are only seeing 33% of all the hair you currently have as the rest is dormant. That should give you a good idea. Also, you can get a good results in about 12 months from your first clearance, assuming you stick to schedule and go in as soon as new hair pops up every time.

Lizzie,

Budget a minimum of one year. That has been my experience.

Find a competent and experienced electrologist who isn’t afraid to use the correct amount of juice on you. Genital hairs are TOUGH and 1/2 of them will be “asleep” at any given time. Only male beards are tougher.

Depending on how bushy your area is, it will take about 7-9 hours to initial clearance (one pass to get everything).

And then weekly visits (an hour +).

Stay with a treatment regimen. The more you stick with it in the beginning the better the results you will have.

Your mileage may vary … perhaps this will give you an order of magnitude of what to expect.

Best of luck!

L,
I am ten months into the process and would have to concur with the previous responders, particularly the “scientific” approach of LA Girl. I am probably 4-5 months from completion with hour-long weekly treatments.

Good luck!

My clients are told to expect about 18 months of monthly clearings - the first few month’s appointments will be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly and the area should be cleared with monthly treatments after that time. Two extremes that I completed were 11 hours total (no other areas) within the 18 months and 81 hours total (also included breasts and abdomen as well as the full Brazilian area - buttocks included) in 21 months. These two women could have been sisters except for the different amount and pattern of hair growth they presented.

Hope that helps!

what was your method? blend? Or thermolysis? They only had to come in once a month?

The 11 hour woman came in once a month for 18 months. The 81 hour woman came in sporadically - sometimes a couple of times in a months and sometimes skipping a month - some of her appointments were for 4 hours.

The method I use is thermolysis because it will clear the area very quickly and there is little discomfort.

thats awesome! did she not have a lot of hair? You never had to go to blend? I hope thats me!

A lot of electrologists treat hair anywhere of any structure with thermolysis. There are those that only use blend no matter what the situation. Each swears that what they do is the best. They are not hyping or lying because both methods are great options if the skill factor is present.

I personally do microflash thermolysis and the results are superb. If the client requested blend for some reason, then I would do blend. No big deal. Both modalities will get you there. It all comes down to variables such as sensation, speed, skin reaction, etc. Certain parts can be a sensitive, so maybe you might need to try something like EMLA 1.5 hours before treatment.

Some people choose to lase the area first and then fine tune with electrolysis. That works, too.

As always, Dee said it like it is!!!

The “11 hour woman” had some hair extending outside of her bathing suit line. It went from outside the center front of each leg to about midline of her inner thigh and extended about two inches below the bathing suit line.

The other woman had almost all of her pubic hair removed.
