Frequence of visits

I was just wondering. What is the expected frequency of visits for electrolysis treatments for a white female? On average is it every week, every two weeks, etc. I know it would depend on the individual. I would just like to find out the ballpark of how much money I am expecting to be paying for this if I decide to go ahead.

Thanks

It is like asking, “How much should I pay to have my house painted?”, is your house the size of my house, or Oprah’s house? We can’t really answer, as there are so many things we don’t know. We don’t know how many hairs you have in the treatment area, or where the treatment area is, or if all the hairs run in the same direction, or if they are all the same thickness and length. We don’t know what type of electrolysis your practitioner will use, and we don’t know how fast that person is to begin with, or how fast she can work on you in the area you will be having worked on.

Havind said all that, you will probably start out with weekly treatments, that will step down to bi-weekly, then once every 3 weeks, then once every month, and so on. Your treatment time will decline as long as you resist the temptation to start something new (most people just say, "Instead of finishing up in 15 minutes, let’s put the other 45 minutes on my legs, or underarms) and if you stay on schedule, your treatment dollars go farther as you spend less overall, even as you spend more up front, and less per week later.

We have many people on here who have put up journels of their treatment time. You may want to read some of them.

Depending on what you are having done and where you have it done, you could have an inexpensive and quick resolution, or an up hill battle that costs enough to give you pause.

Doesn’t matter if you are white or a woman of color when we’re talking electrolysis, but for any area, you want to think of more frequent and longer appointments up front to get to a first, full clearance, followed by more spaced out, shorter treatments toward the end of your treatment plan. Depending on the electrolysis modality your particular practitioner uses, you can expect completion in about 9-18 months. So weekly appointments at first, followed by every 2-3 weeks, followed by every 4-6 weeks is a good plan to get growing hairs that are new. This answer is all so very general. I don’t know what area you are wanting help with or how much hair you have??? Structure of the hair, previous methods used for removal? Medications? Health problems? Pregnancies? Stress levels? Heredity? All these things figure into removing hair permanently.

There are other variables as well, that can affect your particular hair problem. That’s why consultations are important. Get as many as you can AFTER studying and learning all you can about proper electrolysis care. This website is more up to date than most websites and written material like books and magazines are woefully dated. Don’t expect your physician to lead you anywhere as most will direct you towards a laser office. Depending on the hair removal needs, one can expect to pay between $200 to a couple thousand dollars before it is all said and done. My largest cases, like a man’s back, have hovered near $4,500 over a period of 14 months. Do save before you start so you don’t have to interupt a treatment plan.

It’s dependent on how much hair you have to treat. Electrolysis removes hair one by one. Some methods and electrologist are faster than others (5-10 hairs per minute is good). You have to go in as often as possible to get to a clearance and then come in as soon as you see new hair pop up, so that you leave hairless each time. It takes about 9-18 months to go through all the cycles depending on how bad your situation is, from the initial clearance.

Now given this information, you can come up with an estimate yourself.

This is how I help new clients determine how often to come in:

If tweezing daily to weekly - come in weekly.
If tweezing biweekly - come in every two weeks.
If tweezing occasionally - come back in 2 or 3 weeks and let’s see how much is there.
All tweezing must stop. The length of these treatments will be very close to the same number of minutes that you take to tweeze.

If shaving daily - let’s clear an area and then determine how long it will take to clear ALL the hair. Our first goal is to clear all the hair once a week. Our next goal will be to clear all the hair (once a week) in less than 30 minutes. Once it takes 15 minutes to clear all the hair - we can consider going every 2 weeks.

With both of these schedules the appointments should get shorter and shorter, and further apart.

Thanks for all the helpful information. I am trying to clear the upper lip area. I have never waxed, or plucked there. I only used bleach. Based on all the responses it seems I have a pretty good idea of where I am headed with this.

Thank you all

I’ll be more specific now - for a bleached upper lip I recommend returning every 2-3 weeks in the beginning, unless you are having to bleach weekly. (Then it’s weekly to begin with.)

Thanks! I generally bleach as required. Every 2-3 weeks. Less in the summer I guess. I actually wish I never started bleaching. I think it might have created an increased blood flow in that area causing hairs to become stronger.

I do have a birth mark above my lip as well (1 mm in diameter); hopefully that won’t cause problems. I suspect electrolysis cannot be applied in that area. I remember reading something about that.

I will find out during my initial consultation in 2 days

Thanks!
