FREAKING OUT!! SCABS LEFT DEPRESSIONS IN SKIN.

It has been almost a week since my first electrolysis session. I had scabs on my chin just about every single time she used the needle device…some of those scabs have no fallen off and I have a slight depression/indention in the skin. I am extremely worried about it…not only is my chin getting harrier, but now I have potentially permanent scars to worry about too! Is this normal at all?? Will they heal?

It would certainly be helpful if you could post a quality picture. This is the internet and we can’t see you. Most tiny wounds from electrolysis do heal.

In simple terms, when a follicle is destroyed, the hole left behind is filled with blood and other cells that come to heal it. Some of these cells create a fibrous material that pulls the follicle closed. This internal tension is what is creating the dimpling. The chin, in particular, can be a little more prone to this effect, whether there were any visible scabs or not.

At this point, it’s just part of the normal healing process… try not to worry about things too much immediately after a session, the vast majority of the time, everything heals and becomes invisible.

@dfahey, I will try to get a good picture.

EmancipatedElect, thank you for the reassurance. As my username reflects, I do get extremely anxious and worried about a lot of things, (particularly concerning my body). However, I feel I have very valid reasons to be concerned as I can visibly see for myself that something may be wrong. Also, I read that scars can take up to a year to form…so even if some areas might appear ok now, how do I know I haven’t still been scarred in the long term? The uncertainty scares me! But I also cannot live with these hairs that have seemed to suddenly have began proliferating on my chin. I just feel a bit stuck over this… problem but I desperately want a resolution that won’t cause me more problems.

Let me guess: You observe wound contraction:
in order not needing to repair everything at once the body contracts the wound an slowly releases it when healing progresses. From the outside this looks like a shallow round depression, often, but not always a bit darker than the surrounding skin (because the deeper tissue shimmers through the thin fresh skin). It will go away within a few weeks.

Does wound contraction happen less than a week later? Because that’s when some of the scabs have come off and that’s what they’ve revealed underneath. I really do hope that’s what happened in my case though and that further healing will take place.

Also, I saw this comment posted on another website:

“Don’t do electrolosis – I did it in my twenties and the scarring shows up much later. I supposedly had the best electrologist out there. But everyone’s skin reacts differently.”

If that doesn’t cause someone to freak out I don’t know what else could?? :expressionless:

Yes, it does. It is part of the early phase of wound healing.
