? for touch-up tx

Some questions-thanks.

On an alexandrite cynosure 9300 are there limits to spot size with joules? I would like over 30j but they’re going to use 15mm spot size which missed alot of spots last treatment.

Is 25j/18mm equivalent to 30j/15mm? I think I read bigger spot size scatters heat to deeper tissue depth. So more effective?

Last one-
My 2nd treatment seemed to be more uncomfortable due to cool air blowing but not in sink to where the laser was firing so never really got the cooling down sensation. Is that an ok assumption?

usually, higher joules and lower spot size are presumed more effective for finer hair. either way, there isn’t much difference between 15mm and 18mm. the reason the hairs were missed were due to tech’s skill or lack of paying close attention and overlapping a bit.

cooling is usually a second or so before the laser shot.

Ok-so had the touch up and grilled the nurse about the settings. Brief history, I am getting bk, sh, up arms on alex cynosure 9300.
1st treatment-21j/20msec/20mm spot. 2nd treatment- 23j/20msec/15mm spot. Touch-up-23j/20msec/15 spot.

I am a little stuck on your advice about 30j etc so I am getting frustrated that they won’t go that high. I’ve had 3 different nurses for the 3 treatments and all are shocked that I would suggest such a thing(30j).

This last nurse stated that their MD’s would never ok 30j. She stated that I’m not taking in to consideration the time aspect(20msec). As treatment goes on they’ll reduce the time down to 10msec and max out at 25j.

This makes sense if I was treating thin hair but I am anticipating same coarse hair that grew back after 1st treatment so all this less time(10 vs 20msec) will only fracture follicle-not kill it.

Its a sona chain so I may be SOL. Any kind words of wisdom/advice. I’m trying not to be a control freak but can’t help myself.

joules are not equivalent among lasers. what you’re read about 30 joules minimum was said about LightSheer treatments. It’s not the same as Apogee. I’ve had treatments with GentleLASE at 14-30 joule ranges. Also, not equivalent. Yes, 10 vs 20 ms is relevant too. The shorter the pulse, the more effective for finer hair etc. If you’re getting at least 80-90% shedding, you should be fine. I’ve gotten good results at 14-18 joules on GentleLASE on very coarse hair. The issue comes more into play once those are gone and you have finer hair to treat. You will notice when there seems to be a diminishing returns effect.

Thanks. So you’re saying relax and trust what they’re doing…for now. OK.

LAgirl-you better get a cut of the donations for all your dedicated work here on this site. It’s appreciated.

haha. not really. would be nice wouldn’t it? actually, as long as it’s appreciated is what matters. i’m actually going on vacation out of the country for a few weeks starting next week, so don’t miss me too much
