For Joyce : tattoo Electrolysis

electrolysisbunny

As Joyce from Richmond Hill brought this topic up to me in a recent phone contact, I took a few moment to search for a way back when image from here on hairtell that way apparently saved by the good folks at Upway Electrolysis and uploaded to their facebook page. I’m happy to restore it here to hairtell as this topic comes up from time to time. The original image has long since expired from the imgur host.

The story goes, is that this is what you get when you do electrolysis on tattoo bearing skin. The heat from the thermolysis treatment degenerates partof the pigment. This is particularly prevelent in blue or green coloured inks for some reason but may affect someother colors, andothers not at all. Also of note is often this is the color ink used in linework for tattooing

Credit for theoriginal Photograph goes to Josefa Reina, with thanks to the folks at Upwey electrolysis for archiving it.
When asked if this was a treatment concern, Joefa had said it was not , due to the tattoo 's planned removal with a laser anyway.

Thanks for posting this Seana.

So what should be a general guideline to clients with tattoos? Should they be told that there is no guarantee that electrolysis won’t damage certain inks? With more people getting tattoos these days, is there a growing concern in electrology world?

It would be ethical for the electrologist to inform the client of this possibility yes ( if indeed the electrologist is even aware of this, which many are not) . I wouldnt say it’s a growing concern, but it is an issue and question that comes up from time to time .In general it’s a good idea to advise the client so they are aware of the possibility. Some may choose not to get electrolysis, others will get touchups from the tattooist once complete, and others might not even care such as in this case.
