Folliculitis

Can you still get folliculitis or similar things after complete permanent hair removal(using a combination of laser+electrolysis)?

Is the hair follicle dead and cannot cause anymore problems or can you still get something like a folliculitis or other infections of the follicle? Or can it only cause problems as long as it’s alive?

When the follicle is gone, so is the folliculitis … gone! And, this is one of the beneficial side-effects of electrolysis!

Example: A young guy (real name Brennan) had acne that caused scar tissue build-up mostly along the sides of his neck. I removed the horribly distorted hairs that would ingrow and cause pustules.

We decided to remove all the hair in the area, because doing this would also give him a nice tidy beard. (He had to have a beard, because shaving caused more acne.)

Now that we are finished, there are absolutely NO pustules in the area. The acne is 99% gone from the area (acne is a “disease” of the pilosebaceous unit … and we removed all of them that had hairs). The further benefit was in the greatly diminished scar tissue!

Here’s what happened: The continuing inflammation, caused by electrolysis, was GOOD for the skin in this case. All the healing cells were started up and therefore “went after” the old collagen tissue (scars). The process is called “collagen (or scar) remodeling." Also called “collagen turnover.” This “firing up” of the wound-healing process is at the heart of all “facial resurfacing” procedures, whether they are chemical peels or lasers. (I had a very interesting conversation with Dr. Gold … the inventor of laser hair removal, about “aging the fibroblasts” by over doing continued inflammation. A later post?)

I always recommend that if you have a patient that has “marks” from electrolysis … to go ahead (after the initial inflammation has subsides) and continue to treat the area. Starting up the process will greatly diminish the “marks” (even hyperpigmentation). In this way, you are using the currents to “heal” the skin. (With the hyperpigmentation, the macrophages are stimulated to “eat up” the excess pigment.) This “side-effect” is really wonderful! Maybe we could call this “the healing effect of electrolysis?”

Have other electrologists experienced this as well; care to share your story?

Absolutely agree, Michael. I bring years of observing these phenomena. This is exciting to see that we have again experienced the same things. I have 3 recent cases that demonstrate your theory. The first is about folliculitis caused by shaving. One week after removing the hair, folliculitis was completely gone!
The second case is an old acne scar, at the core of the scar had formed a small sebaceous cyst. The current act as a catalyst and off the capsule was tightly adherent to the walls of the follicle. It was only necessary to drain a bit and the outside capsule shot out. The third case hyperpigmentation post-electrolysis, the hyperpigmentation still remained after 5 months, and disappeared after 2 weeks with a new clearance.
My latest discovery, Electrolysis has removed the plates of dermatitis on the chest of a man.
Actually the term that you have chosen can not be more successful.

Electrolysis Healing effect

The second case is well known to us know… and it works! Thank you Josefa.

Thanks Stoppit

Here is an example of case 3:

Thanks for the input, people!

I get boils after waxing, shaving or any other form of hair removal except trimming! Sometimes they are pus-filled. Sometimes they are not- just red-inflamed bumps. And now I have started getting them even when I DON’T touch my hair!

They look like this

http://www.google.co.in/imgres?q=boils&um=1&hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1047&bih=394&tbm=isch&tbnid=s0k5uexzaLIPMM:&imgrefurl=http://www.primehealthchannel.com/boils-furuncle-pictures-causes-prevention-treatment-and-natural-remedies.html&docid=1Ykao5hhcvgksM&imgurl=http://www.primehealthchannel.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Boils-Pictures.jpg&w=390&h=308&ei=4_3gTtmQFIG3rAfR7oGoCw&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=241&sig=108776017915544060556&page=2&tbnh=166&tbnw=174&start=5&ndsp=4&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:5&tx=117&ty=54

So after complete hair removal, they will stop coming? I’m tired of taking antibiotics! I fear I might develop antibiotic resistance. Please help.

Do you get professionally waxed or are you doing it yourself?

Michael speaks the truth.

I had tons of marks from my first clearance that took an eternity to go away and I fully expected my second clearance to be the same. It wasn’t. The difference is like night and day.

This is what I get-

@Arlene: I get waxed professionally
