First try - quite a lot of tugging

Hey everyone. After months I finally tried out some eelctrolysis. Unfortunately I’m unsure whether it was a successful experience.

It was just an experimental session on a few hairs on my face (I am a case of laser stimulation, if you recall.) I felt the practicioner tug most of the hairs off…like 90% of them. Again, I know you get these questions here a lot but is this normal? As for the pain, some of it was bearable but there were some insistent zaps that hurt quite a lot (each time the machine beeps that’s a zap, right?)…and then I still felt the hair being pulled out. I asked her and she said it was normal, that eventually after several treatments the hairs will weaken. The thing is, I don’t think my hairs are quite that thick to be so resistant. Definitely not akin a man’s beard.

As for the equipment she has an Apilus machine. I saw her take the needle from a grey bag and she wore gloves and used an overhead light with a magnifying glass. As for what method she used…the thing is I don’t think she likes a lot of questions and she dodged most of them.

As for the healing I feel like the Wolverine right now. It’s very strange because I know there was quite a bit of pain in some zaps and the area was reddened right after treatment (which is normal). But, now, a few hours later I got nothing. I mean, the affected area looks no different at all from the rest of my face. Heck, even some of my acne looks worse than the treated area. I still dabbed some tea tree oil, though.

Right now I am unsure if I will pursue electrolysis there. The thing is, it is very difficult to find practitioners in Portugal but I certainly don’t want to spend money if it will amount to just some expensive plucking.

first instincts are often correct… The inability to ask questions is a problem. She’s right that some tugging is normal, but I find that a pluck fels very different, there’s that slight “sting” as the root is ripped.

The big thing that gets my attention is taking the probes out of a grey bag. Were they in individual paper and plastic ? If they werent, this could indicate unsanitary conditions. I know some have sid this is common practise in some countries, but probes reallly should be single use and sterile in my opinion.I know I personally wil re-use probes over several days on myself where possible , but that’s just me. No one else touches them.I’ve gone through almost my entire supply and need to order more. IT’s not an expense I look forward to.

Ah, yes, I distinctly felt that “sting” when the hairs were plucked off. There was only one or two I didn’t feel that.

Honestly, the question thing and general attitude is what annoys me the most. I had similar reactions in another place regarding any questions about the procedure. The feeling I have is that I don’t need to know any details (such as laser intensity - I’m also gonna do laser in some body areas there; type of electrolysis technique, type of equipment, etc) because it’s not like I would understand anything about the procedure. They didn’t say that directly, of course, but it’s implied - at least that’s what it felt like to me. Oh well, I contacted another place and I’m going there next week. Let’s see how things go. At least they sounded nice on the phone.

To be honest, I didn’t notice much about the probes. I was mostly lying down already and she was doing everything in an angle I couldn’t quite see. Well, they’d assured me they don’t reutilize needles. I hope they were honest about that. Well, I certainly am not repeating any sessions there.

I’m probably an “overtreater” . I completely hate that sting. I will often give even the thinnest of hairs 2 full cycles with my epilator because I know too well, that every time I feel that sting, every time I see hair come out without that nice beautiful sheath attached, that’s a hair I’ll need to treat again in three months. I’m on a mission. That mission, is well treated and fully dead follicles.

Good luck with your next appointment. My personal recommendation is try at least 5. You will find that one, that one that has a hate on for the hair nearly as much as you do.

What I find odd is that she insistent in some of the follicles - seriously, for a particular one I thought my skin was gonna burst from so many electrical charges - but in the end I still felt the hair being pulled off. Well, this practicioner didn’t feel confident at all in her skill. They do have a colleague in the clinic but I doubt they’d gonna let me do another free test with another person.

Thanks. The thing is, I don’t think the places I found here amount to even 5 =/ I think quite a few of them have closed down (damn you, economy) and I’ve contacted 4 of them with no success for a variety of reasons. Quite the journey I have in front of me to find a skilled practicioner nearby.
