Hello everyone, I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one suffering from unwanted hair. I am a male, age 25 and I have been dealing with my body hair since I was 15. Back then it wasn’t as bad as it is now. What I mean by that is that my facial hair has grown darker and more coars and hair started to pop up on my back and on my shoulders, and the back of my neck. I went to Ideal Image for my facial hair and front neck hair and they told me it wouldn’t work on my hair because it has some red in it. I’m a white male with a normal white guy complection. I don’t burn when I’m out in the sun or anything like that so I would think that laser would work well. After hearing the amount of cost I reconsidered even wasting time, energy and much needed gas money on something that doesn’t do anything. I was wondering if there is anyone who has my complection and hair type that actually has a success story that they can tell me before I go for my first session.
If I wasn’t completly clear on my type, here it is in detail: Dark brown with hint of red hair and light skin. Hair on back and shoulders, stomach, chest( all over my chest), face and front neck and back neck connecting to the front. I have managed to appear like a normal person by shaving the back of my neck every morning and shaving once a week for my face and neck. Since my hair is so coarse my skin gets irritated from shaving to often so thats why I shave once a week. If anyone can help give me a reply please.
Laser works on dark hair. Your hair may have enough pigment for laser, or it may not. They would need to test it. If they turned you away, I would assume you may not. It’s nice to hear that they’re being honest. Many clinics would just take your money anyway. If you really want to, you can ask them to do a test spot and see if you experience shedding. That may mean that it can work, at least partially.
However, laser should only be used on dense coarse hair. If you have sparse hair on your arms, shoulders, etc, you need electrolysis to remove that permanently.
Also, treating male facial hair is difficult because it is prone to patchiness. You should run a search on this forum using the search feature at the top right corner. There are many other men on this forum with various experiences with laser and electrolysis on the same areas.
Also, do read the FAQs below first.
Cool, Thanx for helping me out. The only thing they told me is there could be minimal change for my red facial hair. Hmm ok, I’ll have them do a test. One more ? is do they charge for that “test”?
Most clinics do it for free. You also have many more options than just Ideal Image. Please take a look at the FAQs and at the laser hair removal section of this forum for ways to find other clinics near you. You need an alex type of laser for your light skin. Ideal Image actually has the best one, GentleLASE model. You can find others at Candela Corporation provider search.
