first time laser experience with GentleLase

Hello
I’m new here and used to folow Kitty’s consumer beware but thanks to finding this page I now feel like I’m REALLY informed.

I had my first laser treatment Wed on a small area of dark hairs on my chin I got a package of 5 treatments with GenteLase. I am very pale and they are dark hairs and I thought I was a type II but they had me as a type III.
She used a 12mm spot size but when I asked what the joules were she said they are not supposed to give that info out but it is on file!! I was not happy but she said each session they can boost it up a liitle but that they have a protocol for the skin type that they use. Does this sound right about bossting it up each session?

What joules should I be requesting with a 12mm spot size for typeII/III skin type ?(more type II. I was 1 point over) I will request after I hear from you to see if it works.

Thanks for your help
Alli

I’ve never heard of a place keeping “Joule” information confidential. That’s rediculous. You should absolutely know what power they are using and guage it depending on the pain you feel or the effectiveness of the treatment.
Just lean over next time and see what it says on the machine. It should be a number between 12-18 if i’m not mistaken.

12mm is a small spot size, so joules should be pretty high if you’re that light. i would expect around 20-30 joules. yes, they can raise them every time, but most effective way would be to treat high from the start. also, the “protocol” is usually a chart from the manufacturer which has pretty low settings because they don’t want to be sued for burns. i would insist on knowing the settings and asking for what you feel is best in this case.
