first time electrolysis user questions

(male, 36) Have just started electrolysis for my shoulders and have some questions.

i am not very hairy there but enough to bother me. firstly the treatments are fairly painful but tolerable, I don’t feel any plucking and I heal up okay too so i assume thats sounds like i am being treated okay - she said the type of treatment is dymo…something it began with D I’m sure. my first sessions were 22nd of jan then 29th for clearance of what was there, then yesterday (12th feb) with next session 26th of feb.

am i right in thinking the cycle thing from laser treatment applies here as well? I mean the hair she got rid is gone but another lot will come in anyway but not from the same follicle. is that correct? practitioner said by summer i should be clear.

oh lastly i really wanted her to do my upper arms but she was hesitant. she indicated body hair is a big job and not her normal offered treatment. i was thinking laser to thin it out but understand this can be risky - i’m quite pale, my upper arm hair is dark brown but not as dark as lower arm hair .

thank you

I’m guessing that she said “diathermy” which is another word for “thermolysis”, “HF/High-Frequency”, “RF/Radio Frequency” or “shortwave”. All terms effectively mean the same thing.

I find it odd that she won’t do more body hair, though.

Thank you for reply, where I live (Northampton,England) she is the only proper electrolysis I could find. plus her setup is very discrete and not in the middle of a beauty salon.

Anyway, I think she is used to doing women’s faces so I thought about laser to reduce upper arm hair but I am aware it is risky in this area.

Other thing though, i am scheduled to see her next Friday but I have no sign of any hair on my shoulders coming through. She wants to see me when new hair is just coming as she said that is the best time - but from the 22nd of jan i have no hair appearing to show up - its great really but that can’t just be it right? i didn’t think it was this easy

body hair if there is a lot of it to my experience on here is treats 2 ways leave it for 3 months get a long treatment over an hours worth and then go back in 3 months. Go weekly-fortnightly get a small session say 20 minutes and then back back the following week until you eventually get clearance, even with the 1 hour plus it may take a long time to get clearance if you have lots of arms hairs.

In my experience not all electrolysis work 1 hour plus most in UK offer sessions up to 30 minutes only and in the UK they tend to recommend facial and any other region that you have a small patch of hair you start straight onto electrolysis but if its body hair they recommend you have a small course of laser and then when you have seen a reduction come to electrolysis to get rid of the remaining hairs.

My electrolysis has done uppeer lip chin under arms pubic hairs nipples hairs hair on hand fingers toes feet but if you ask for your legs she said it would take far too long is it worth it to me? and if it is she recommends a 6-10 course of laser and come back to her when I see growth after this amount of treatments and she’s finish it off.

I personally haven’t bothered but If I won the lottery for laser I probably would lol.
