First laser session

I’ve recently started laser hair removal on the facial area. The place I go to is very reputable and follows all safety procedures. I am a bit concerned about one thing. Before we begin, the technician puts a cloth over my eyes, followed with the correct eye wear (goggle type things for laser), and it’s always secured very tightly. Around the side burn area, I see red flashes of light, even with my eyes tightly closed and my eyes covered two different ways. The laser we use is the LightSheer Diode. I’ve never had any vision problems following my appointments or any headaches. I’m just a very cautious person and may be over thinking this but I want to be sure. Is this something to be worried about?

There’s nothing to worry about. It’s the same way that when you put your finger over a flashlight it glows red. Some light just goes through the skin, and the eyelid is a very thin flap of skin. The goggles help to minimize it.

Thank you for the response. I am trying not to shave or even trim in between appointments but if I do does that somehow alter the treated hair? I know it sounds weird but my hair grows back really coarse if I shave or even trim it so I want to leave it alone but aren’t the treated hairs dead so would shaving affect that at all?

Shave the hairs or trim them. Both are fine when it is laser.

The reason that the hair seems “coarse” after shaving or trimming is because you’re getting rid of the tapered end of the hair and instead the hair is blunt, as well as being short so not as soft because it doesn’t have as much length to bend.

Shaving and trimming is an issue with electrolysis, not laser.

What you don’t want to do is remove the hair by the root (for example, waxing, sugaring or plucking).
