First laser session booked - question about after

Specifically, does the hair keep “growing”.

I am scheduled to get my bikini area treated next Tuesday. I am really worried it won’t work. I’m going to a clinic with a good reputation (in fact, it’s owned by my ob/gyn, whom I trust completely). However, they use Lumenis, not the Gentlelase I keep reading about.

I am just desperate to get rid of the hair.

Anyway, my question is this: after the laser treatment, does the hair stop growing and eventually shed? Or will I get stubble and then eventually shed?

If I will get stubble, can I shave it? My bikini area skin is quite sensitive and my hair is rather coarse, so I know how miserable I’ll be if I have to walk around with stubble for several days.

What can I expect? TIA

Did you read our FAQs? The link is right below this post. Please do so asap.

LightSheer is an ok laser, as long as it’s used by someone who knows what they’re doing - and by this I mean in LHR specifically. Just because it’s a doctor you know who’s good at something else, doesn’t mean they know hair removal. You want someone who does LHR all day, every day. I would urge you to check out at least 3-4 other places to compare things first, before jumping into treatments. It’s not a cheap procedure and you want to be happy with your results, which isn’t just achieved by pointing a laser at the skin. The FAQs will help you figure out what to look for.

In terms of your question, the hair will look like it’s growing at first, but will then fall out starting at week 1.5. Don’t worry about the stubble. It won’t bother you. The skin will be very smooth once the shedding starts. The feeling is not the same as after shaving since the hair is singed. You won’t be miserable at all. Not shaving is better since it can slow down shedding.

Lagirl - thank you for the answer.

Yes, I’ve read the FAQ’s and think I’m prepared to keep my appointment. He (my ob/gyn) doesn’t actually do the treatments, just owns the practice. They have three, full-time laser people. According to their website, they have four different lasers, so it’s possible it won’t be a LightSheer. I have my consult next week.

In fact, their practice does training for other companies that do laser, so I’m hoping that’s a good thing. A friend is using another company that is “new” and offering a great discount, but the fact that they ARE new worries me (plus she reported no pain with her treatment). The company I plan to use has been doing laser hair removal for at about 10 years, give or take a year.

Anyway - thank you for your answer!!! It really puts my mind at ease. We are going on a small’ish vacation next weekend with lots of walking and I was going to reschedule my appointment if I was going to end up an irritated mess :).

If done correctly, the Lightsheer will give good results.

If you need to shave the hair, do it, it wont hurt the process.

If there’s no pain, it’s NOT WORKING. It may be that she’s been treated with a BS product like “electric tweezers”…ask her to check what machine she used.

Everyone has a different experience…I got a little stubble but it seemed to be less since the hair fell out right away…also after less than 18-24 hours my skin is not irritated in any way
