First Ever Electrolysis Consult Today (Pics)

Hello all,

I found this forum whilst searching for a solution to my embarrassing hair problem. For years now, I have randomly sprouted hair on my abdomen, and I remove/removed it with Nair wit no issues. However, a few years ago, after taking birth control pills in another country, it began to sprout on my chest. I was fine to shave it at first, then I started with home wax… then about 3 months ago I tried tweezers. I haven’t done anything to it in over a month, and I think I’m seeing all the hair I ever would/will see, so I think it’s a good time to try electrolysis.

I am really embarrassed to show this picture, but here it goes. I used to have such a pretty chest. Now there are scars from in-growns I’ve had to dig out. :frowning:

Another pic if that one doesn’t work: ChestElectroBeforePic

I do not have PCOS or thyroid issues (tested the hormone ratios and they were fine). I did recently get my estrogen and testosterone levels checked, but I won’t have those results until later this week or early next week. I don’t have any other symptoms, so I’m not sure what could have caused this, other than the birth control pills. I don’t have any facial hair issues and my mom doesn’t have this issue at all.

I am located in Cincy, OH and am about to go to Carol Kalan for a consult. I also have a consult scheduled with Karen Vickers, but I honestly don’t think I’ll go to her because $75 for each 15 minute session is just exorbitant in my book, especially after researching average prices and learning that she doesn’t provide any numbing cream or anything. However, I don’t want to take away from her work because I did read very good reviews on her. I just can’t afford $75/15 minutes every other week.

Anyway, pray for me. I just want to get my confidence back and get rid of this hair.

Congratulations on your start.

Seana

Yes, congratulations and good luck! On the bright side, that looks like a very small amount of hair. I’m no expert, but I can’t imagine that it would take too long.

Keep us updated with pictures!

Wow! $75 for 15 minutes is CRAZY (and I know we are encouraged not to make comparisons, costs are different in different cities etc) but that is just not on! I live in a very expensive city in Australia where prices are quite high (but cost of living is also high) and it’s still not that much :frowning:

Goodluck with your new journey! Don’t get discouraged. I tend to get PIH and lots of pimples etc on my chest after getting electrolysis in this area, even though I don’t get it on the rest of my body. I think it is because it’s quite an oily area. Don’t let that discourage you either… it heals really well given time and care and will end up looking better than when you started!

Do try a few different practitioners though, if you feel the need. Different practitioners, different machines, different experience levels etc all make an impact on your treatment. Even if the treatment is amazing, too much pain will leave you loathe to turn up. You may not need numbing cream - I don’t use it.

Quick note (somewhat). Everything that you have shown will resolve completely … as in, “go away.” Yes, more evidence that TWEEZING screws-up you skin! DON’T DO IT PLEASE!

Further electrolysis treatments (good ones) will hasten the clearance of the marks (yes, it will!).

$75 per 15 minutes ($300 per hour?) is almost not believable … maybe you misinterpreted, because $75 per HOUR is more in line with our normal fees. (Nobody’s THAT good … sorry!)

Our own Dee, in Columbus, is now somebody I recommend without equivocation. Why? Because right now, we are sharing a client. I have now seen, with my very-own blood-shot eyes, her work … and it’s absolutely first rate. Probably a 100% “kill rate” with ZERO skin manifestations.

If you have the opportunity to travel to Dee that’s my recommendation. She’s a wonderful lady too … so kind (and it’s genuine). Yes, you have a tiny area and maybe not worth the trip … so, maybe do your legs too?

I wish I was kidding. She really is $75 for 15 minutes. See pic:

If the image isn’t working for you, here’s the direct link to it: $75 for 15 minutes

You can also “right click” the image and click “view image” and it will show it better for you

On another note, my consultation went really well! I was told that I would probably achieve total clearance within one hour and that as long as I was consistent I wouldn’t have an issue achieving permanent removal.

She also did a few sample hairs for me, via thermolysis, and I found the sensation very tolerable (it was much better than my tattoo anyway haha). It was red for maybe 10 minutes after and that’s it. She said people of color (especially those that have tweezed) have a tendency to experience longer than usual temporary hyperpigmentation and some scabbing (d/t the distorted hair follice/root shape). However for me, no scabbing occurred with the sample spots. They slipped right out and now you can’t even tell anything was there. I have set up to have my first clearance on Saturday, and I couldn’t be happier. She said that my having light skin makes it easier for her to see the hair, and thus it will be a faster process.

Additionally, she’s very affordable $90 per hour.

I’m so thankful to Dee Fahey for her help and to everyone for contributing to this forum!

Honestly, if I could go to Dee, I certainly would! She’s amazing, but right now, I’m a student :-/ I will have to wait until I get licensed and save up, because if my chest works out, I’d actually love to do my bikini line!

The person you went with sounds good from the start: she’s given you good advice about achieving permanent results - and the caveat is that it’s if you are consistent. She’s given you a sample treatment. She’s made you aware that you may experience longer than normal TEMPORARY hypierpigmentation. You felt the hairs “slip right out”.

Everything sounds so positive! I’m really impressed!

I was very impressed too! Ms. Kalan is sweet and seems very knowledgeable. The office was clean, and her license and certification were clearly displayed.

Also, I got my testosterone and DHEA labs back and all was normal- just waiting on the estrogen labs now. keeps fingers crossed

Thanks for all the support everyone!

Since when “quality and cache” are related?

I agree, nobody is so good!

Got through my first appointment just fine today! I’ll post pics a bit later. She was thorough and much of it was painless for me. When I did feel something it was like a faint bee sting, but before you could even process the pain, she was on to the next spot. Achieved total clearance. No bleeding or scabs yet. Pretty red and a few bumps, but I think they will be gone soon.

Here are my pics as of now. The one in the middle is with flash.

Nice pictures! Keep us updated? I’m also just starting electrolysis.

Will do. I will be glad when these ugly bumps go away :frowning:

The bumps will go away. Temporary side effects are to be expected. What are your aftercare instructions?

Hi Dee!

Basically she just told me to keep the area clean and to apply Neosporin for 24hrs post-appointment, and then Aquaphor and/or chilled aloe vera gel with a few drops of tea tree oil to the area to keep it clean and decrease inflammation.

It’s* doing pretty good (will post pics later). I am pretty happy that I am not seeing any hyperpigmentation thus far.

Perfect!
