Sorry - i know this has been said numerous times.
But i keep hearing phrases like - ‘make sure you get a good first clearence’ and ‘its essential to get a good frist clearing’
Why does this need to be said? Surely if your going to get a certain area treated, then it goes without saying that the area should be cleared as of the first treatment…? Thats what your paying for after all.
I can only assume this applies to people getting large areas treated, where a full clearence might not be possible in the first sitting.
A first clearing of OFFENDING hair as soon as posssible is a good strategy because we “wipe the slate” clean so it looks like you don’t have a hair problem. After that, we can identify any new hair coming to the surface and zap them early in the growing stage when they are more likely to “fall forever”, never to come back. And just as important, you can stay clear looking until the end.
Getting first clearance on the middle of the eyebrows is quicker than getting first clearance on a man’s back. Initially, it is usually best to get the thicker hairs out of the middle eyebrows and leave the rest so as not to overtreat the such a small area. Breaking up those first sessions with the goal of thinning the area is a good idea and it won’t take long. Your only job is to actually go back every two-three weeks and keep the area maintained (cleared) until you run out of offending hairs to treat because whallah! electrolysis is permanent!
I can frequently clear most cases presented on the face in one session if the client gives me the time. However, if the hair is dense (follicles very close together) and coarse, then it is best to break the first clearing up into several sessions. That’s why you need to get consultations so an electrologist can see you. There are as many varied cases of peoples hair removal needs as there are pathways to heaven.

Another point about that first clearing is that if you are working on virgin growth (areas that have not been waxed, tweezed or threaded) you will have the most hair seen at one time and those hairs will all be in different stages of growth. The quicker that is cleared then the quicker that you will be treating mostly anagen hair all the time.
The quickest way to get done with an area is to clear it and keep it cleared. The treatments will be a progressive diminishing of the amount of hair, until the hairs are far and few between.
A treatment plan will be recommended by the electrologist. As Dee stated, the face might require thinning before clearing. For other areas, clearing from the beginning is “usually” okay.
Well my back is only sparse dark hairs, i would estimate there is about 100 hairs i want treated there. So i would think that can be cleared in the frist session…?
As for my eyebrows, its actaully the top and bottom of them i want treated, just to make them look less thick. On this area i would estimate 60 or so on each eyebrow.
They are fairly thick hairs, but do you think i can get that many hairs cleared in my frist sitting? I wouldn’t think that many is over treating. :-/
I have been tweezing the stray ones for some time now, but i haven’t done this for a week or so now - in anticipation on electrolysis
60 on each eyebrow might be too much in one session. it depends on how your skin reacts. two sessions should definitely cover that though. and you can get all of the 100 back hairs treated at one time. for both of these, i would schedule treatment for at least an hour, maybe an hour and a half, depending on what method they’re using and how fast they are.
Am i right in thinking eyebrows will grow back quicker than back hair?
Someone told me that it grows quicker the higher up your body it is. ie the legs are slowest and head the quickest… this true?
Eyebrow hairs are very different from hair on the rest of your body. They have short growth cycles of 6-8 weeks. There are lots of them in the resting phase, 90% according to one source, and only 10% are in the growing phase. When they are growing, they are active for 4-8 weeks and when they are not growing, they are resting for about 3 months. So there are some hurdles to be aware of. Be patient.
If all you have is about 100 hairs on your back, a good electrologist can get these in one session if she uses thermolysis and it’s variations, such as microflash. Much quicker to do it this way. Blend will take longer, but is also effective.
First clearance is dependant on the skill and speed of the practitioner. Better tools such as, computerized epilators, quality magnification and light source can speed up the removal and leave the skin in excellent shape for the work week ahead.

If you truly do have only 100 hairs on your back appearing at any given time, then it could take 15 to 30 minutes (the time difference between modalities or techniques) to clear this area the first time. If you then clear this area within a month, it should take less time, but be sure and clear this area consistently.
Regarding those eyebrows, 60 hairs on each side shouldn’t be too many to do in one session.
Don’t be surprised if you have more than 100 on your back and fewer than 120 on your brows. I don’t know how many times I’ve done a phone consultation with a client who wants a short appointment to get rid of a large amount of hair or they want to schedule an hour to get rid of 10 hairs.
This reminds me of the client I had whose mustache had 1,000 hairs per line going across the upper lip. If I had not had my Apilus counting hairs removed, I would never have believed it! I was wondering why I was so “slow” as to only be able to remove one line of the mustache per session instead of clearing it out, and I found that for most people, one line on his mustache was their whole mustache!
Hi:
In the case of facial hair such as a mans beard, getting a first full clearance on the face and neck can take possibly 14 hours, according to one source I heard. Although it might be possible to get someone to do that over a couple of days or a week most people would have trouble finding someone to do that, or finding the time.
As an alternative since I could only do 2 hours at a time, I had the same area treated to clearance each time out and in the remaining time worked outwards from there. In my case we did the moustache first and as time went by it became the measuring stick for the effectiveness of my treatments. The neck was probably the most sensitive area and that was left till last.
Over a period of time we went from 2 hours to clear the moustache to presently where it takes a 1/2 hour to do the entire, face, neck, etc… It now takes a couple of weeks to grow a few scattered hairs that are not readily visible.
