I have been to three electrologists in my life, all of whom said that they could only remove the ‘dark’ (terminal) hairs on the face and body. I have been told by 2 of them that treating fine hairs can have the effect of making them stronger and thicker.
I am sure dfahey and james will disagree with this. Will they? not all bothersome hair is thick thick. It seems like the probes that have been used on my are too thick for finer hair. I don’t know if i would term all of it vellus but it is fine.
I don’t know if I will be able to find the right electrologist for a long time. I am very upset by that
I gather by your user name that your in the UK??? I’m sorry to say that you will have your work cut out to find a electrologist that has good enough magnification her in the UK. You will find some very skilled electrologist, but they will be let down by their magnification. It sounds as though you and I are in the same boat…I’ve been searching for the best part six years.
Treating finer hairs with electrolysis does not make them stronger. It permanently disables them if they are treated in the growing stage. That means they are gone forever - as in dead. If they are not in the growing stage and they are treated, it weakens them, but you get them in the next cycle of growth by keeping well-timed appointments. Could this be an excuse because they cannot see the hair?? A lot of women suffer uneccasarily with unwanted hair because practitioners refuse to continue their education. With little open-mindedness, they could serve many depressed women who truly suffer with low self-esteem regarding their hair problems. That’s my take. Maybe you two could go to school and become licensed. You would have a jumping practice since you understand the the short-comings of the local talent. Talk about a niche!!
